After removing the floorboards and sand, they discovered some rocks. Continuing to dig, they discovered shiny objects. At first, they thought it was the wheel of a toy car, but since the floor had never been raised since it was built in 1914, they were horrified to think it was an ancient tomb .

After further exploration , they discovered glass beads, a large iron axe head, and other iron objects. The couple contacted local authorities and experts came to excavate.

Artifacts discovered under the floor were identified as being from an ancient Viking grave, with an axe dating from between 950 and 1050 AD and a dark green glass bead. The findings are rare and have been sent to the Tromso museum for further study.

Earlier, a family in Jomfruland, Norway accidentally discovered an ancient treasure under a tree in their garden. These items include a bowl-shaped lock and another ancient item, believed to be used in 9th century Viking rituals.

Although these items are quite damaged and covered with rust and dust, they still retain many of their design features. Experts and researchers believe that these items have important historical value.

The Aasvik family, after discovering this treasure, reported it to the local authorities and returned the antique to the competent authority.

In Norway, it is illegal to keep pre-1537 historical items and pre-1650 coins and citizens are required to surrender them to the authorities, rather than keeping them for personal use.

Viking graves are not uncommon and over 3,000 have been found in Norway.
