With the goal of increasing people's income, Gia Hung commune (Gia Vien district) has promoted local potential and strengths, implementing many solutions to promote economic development.
Realizing that raising goats brings high economic efficiency, Mr. Bui Van Dao in Hamlet 5, Gia Hung Commune has researched, learned experience and invested in a commercial goat farm in the form of cages. According to Mr. Dao, goats are easy to raise and rarely get sick. Compared to other livestock such as cows and pigs, raising goats in cages brings high economic efficiency, because the investment cost is low, less care is required and the barn area is not large. The barn is simply designed with wood, ensuring ventilation and cleanliness. During the raising process, it is necessary to clean regularly to proactively prevent diseases...
"Goats are omnivorous, so I don't spend much money on food, just cutting grass. In addition to natural grass, I plant elephant grass and corn to proactively source food. However, farmers should note that they should cut grass at noon, because the grass is dry at this time. If cut in the morning, the grass is still wet, the goats can easily get diarrhea, which can lead to death due to dehydration. In addition to grass, my family also adds rice flour and corn flour to provide the necessary nutrients, helping the goats grow" - Mr. Dao said.
Mr. Dao often imports goats from Thailand and Myanmar, weighing 15-20 kg, healthy and agile. After more than 3 months of domestication, care and fattening, the herd of goats reaches a weight of 30-40 kg/head. Each year, Mr. Dao raises 4 batches of commercial goats, each batch from 30-50 goats. The above number of goats is processed and sold by his family in the province and some large provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh ... With stable prices, each year his family has an income of 200-300 million VND. In addition to goats, Mr. Dao is currently testing the raising of more than 30 commercial sheep.
Comrade Dinh Khac Thuy, Chairman of Gia Hung Commune People's Committee, said: In recent years, in order to increase people's income, Gia Hung has focused on directing production development in key agricultural, forestry and fishery areas; bringing high-value plants and animals into production. At the same time, creating conditions for people to access loan sources to develop farm and family farm models that bring economic efficiency. Currently, the commune's associations and unions have entrusted loans to banks with an outstanding debt of nearly 50 billion VND.
The commune also regularly coordinates with specialized units in the district to organize training courses on livestock and crop farming techniques, and the application of new production science and technology for farmers. Thanks to that, agricultural production has developed. Models of raising cows, goats, pigs, poultry, and aquatic products have brought high economic efficiency. In particular, the local industry of raising and processing commercial goats has developed strongly.
Currently, in the commune, there are 40 households raising and processing goats, some households raise more than 100 goats/batch and process 40-50 goats/day, earning several hundred million VND/year. Taking advantage of the forest hills, Gia Hung has successfully built the OCOP product of wild honey. Beekeeping has also developed strongly, bringing high income to many households.
Along with promoting agricultural production development, the commune creates all conditions for production sites and expands the transportation system for households to participate in economic development. Attention is paid to the development of industry, handicrafts, and rural occupations, and capital resources from programs and projects are increasingly exploited for investment, creating conditions for households to produce and do business.
Taking advantage of the potential of the system of historical and cultural relics and rich natural landscapes of the locality, Gia Hung has promoted the development of tourism services. The commune also creates conditions for people to go abroad for temporary labor export.
Currently, the commune has over 100 workers going abroad to work. Thanks to the synchronous implementation of solutions to promote economic development, the average income per capita in 2023 of the commune will reach 74.2 million VND/year; the value of products per hectare of agricultural land will increase to 126 million VND/ha.
