The movie "Don't Cry, Butterfly" (English title: Don't Cry, Butterfly) directed by Duong Dieu Linh, will be released in Vietnamese theaters from January 3, 2025.
The film was directed by Duong Dieu Linh, and is also her first commercially released film project. The film tells the story of Mrs. Tam, a middle-aged woman who works as a wedding coordinator in Hanoi .
One day, Mrs. Tam accidentally discovered her husband's affair through a football match broadcast on television. She decided to seek out a shaman who happened to meet on livestream, believing that he could change her husband. However, the mysterious rituals accidentally awakened a dark force in the house that only Mrs. Tam and her daughter could see.
"Rain on the Butterfly" is a work that combines many genres such as drama, black comedy, fantasy and horror. The film delves into the relationship between mother and daughter, the differences in ideology and lifestyle between women from two generations.
The director and the audience "expose" the real culprit behind women's suffering, thereby answering the question of true happiness for women in modern society.
Artist Tu Oanh takes on the lead role in a film for the first time, after a series of beloved roles on television: "The Taste of Love", "The Milk Flower Returns in the Wind"... Young actor Nguyen Nam Linh plays the daughter Ha in her first foray into cinema.
The film also features choreographer and actor Le Vu Long as the husband and young actor Bui Thac Phong as Ha's best friend.
In September, "Rain on the Butterfly Wings" was awarded the highest award in the category "IWONDERFULL Grand Prize" (best film) by the organizers of the "International Film Critics' Week" at the Venice Film Festival. This award is worth 10,000 Euros (more than 270 million VND).
In addition, the film crew of "Rain on the Butterfly" also received the most creative award (Verona Film Club Prize) judged by a panel of critics under 35 years old. The film was praised for its originality and creativity, combining comedy, drama and fantasy elements while depicting the complexity of a mother-child relationship.
