Parents worry about finding a place to send their children this summer

The end of the school year has not yet ended, but many parents are already looking for places to send their children. How to find a safe place, a professional babysitter, and a reasonable price… is really a difficult problem for parents during the summer.

Struggling to find a place to send

Since the beginning of May, Ms. Nguyen Minh Thu (Phu Thuy Ward, Phan Thiet City) has been busy surveying to find a place to send her child during the summer. “Through information in the press, it is known that the 2022-2023 school year will end before May 31, 2023 and students nationwide will have a summer vacation lasting nearly 3 months. During the long vacation, both paternal and maternal grandparents live far away, and the child is only in first grade, over 6 years old, and cannot stay home alone,” Ms. Thu confided.

Children having summer vacation but parents not having a day off is a common concern of many parents with preschool and elementary school age children because they do not know where to send them. There have been some cases where parents have had to reluctantly take their children to work with them. In order not to affect the work activities, they have to "compromise" by letting their children play with iPads and phones all day to relieve boredom, and assigning homework for their children to do while their parents work. There are also cases where they have to lock the door and leave their children home alone, and siblings take care of each other, even though they know that their children may just sit around all day watching TV, playing games, and not eating or sleeping at the right time...

Ms. Nguyen Thu Hai (Phu Tai Ward) shared: Although I know that summer vacation is an opportunity for children to regain balance and prepare energy for the new school year, not everyone can afford to send them to private schools with tuition fees of several million VND, so I had to choose the option of sending them to the teacher's house. It's not that I want to cram knowledge, but I need to find someone to take care of my children during the summer months.

Summer boarding courses

After a period of searching, through friends, Ms. Nguyen Minh Thu (Phu Thuy ward) was lucky to find a place to leave her child at the private home of a primary school teacher. The school schedule is from Monday to Friday and 2 days off on weekends. Tuition and meals are 100,000 VND/day, which is about 2 million VND/month. This is a reasonable price compared to the monthly income of the couple.

This year, the summer vacation is long, so in response to parents' needs, some schools in Phan Thiet City are currently enrolling students for summer courses. In particular, at Thanh Nguyen Kindergarten - Primary School, the summer school program will start from June 12 to August 4, with class time from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday, with a full course tuition fee of 6 million VND. Students will review and consolidate their knowledge of math, Vietnamese, English and practice skills in music , art, information technology, and swimming. Grades 3, 4, and 5 will also learn badminton and self-defense skills.

At Le Quy Don Kindergarten - Primary School - Secondary School - High School, the summer course takes place for 6 weeks, from June 12 to July 21. Students also review core subjects and practice gifted subjects. In primary school, the tuition fee is nearly 6.7 million VND/course... In addition to gifted classes, the Provincial Children's House also has a skill class for children entering grade 1. The schedule is from June 5 to August 11, with tuition fees ranging from 5.7 - 6.6 million VND (without breakfast or with breakfast)...

Summer school is not like high school, there is no pressure of competition, homework, and going to class, but clearly after 9 months of studying hard, the meaning of summer vacation is much less than what children want. Therefore, do not, because of the desire to have a place to keep your children, "cram" them into skill classes in one day, but arrange them appropriately based on your child's abilities and interests. At the same time, create more conditions, allocate time for playing and entertaining with your children so that they can recover their energy after a hard year of studying.
