Sara Netanyahu, wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sent a letter to Pope Francis asking him to help rescue the remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza.
"Your Holiness, I ask you to intervene personally in this matter. I ask you to use your influence to demand the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages," according to a letter from Sara Netanyahu to Pope Francis dated December 24.
She also asked the Pope to call on the Red Cross to visit the hostages in Gaza and deliver medicine to them.
“78 days after the brutal attack, Hamas still holds 129 men, women and children hostage. Many of them are injured and sick. They suffer from hunger and some do not have access to the basic medicines they need to survive,” Sara stressed. “Your intervention can change the situation and save precious lives.”

Ms. Sara highlighted the difficult situation of Noa Argamani, 25 years old, the hostage who appeared in the video when he was taken by Hamas.
"You could see the terror in her eyes," she said. "Noa's mother, who was born in China, is battling stage 4 brain cancer. She said she doesn't know how much time she has left and wishes she could see Noa at home again."
In addition to Pope Francis, Sara also sent letters to the spouses of 33 world leaders, including US First Lady Jill Biden and the wives of British and French leaders, as part of diplomatic efforts to free hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza.
Hamas has so far said it will not discuss any hostage deal unless Israel ends its offensive in Gaza. Israel insists it will only discuss a temporary halt to hostilities to negotiate the release of hostages.
