"Clever" in environmental protection

Binh Minh commune currently has 118 boats. The average seafood catch of fishermen in the last 3 years is up to 9,000 tons/year.

However, plastic items discharged directly into the marine environment have been affecting the lives of many organisms, leading to the degradation of marine biodiversity, typically the coral ecosystem.

Realizing this, in April 2022, the Women's Union of Binh Minh commune established the model "Collecting plastic waste from the sea to the shore, turning waste into money" with the participation of 25 ship owners.

To date, 40 fishing boats have participated. On average, each fishing boat brings back to shore about 30-50kg of plastic waste after a trip at sea. Of this, about 80% is recyclable, the rest is harder to recycle, such as salt bags and food packaging.

Recycled waste such as cans and water bottles are collected and sold by the Women's Union to raise funds. The total amount of money from collecting and selling waste to date is more than 41 million VND. From this amount, the association has supported 12 cases of women in sudden difficulty, sponsored 4 orphans and supported 6 fishermen whose ship sank.

Ms. Tran Thi Bich Ngoc - Vice President of the Women's Union of Binh Minh commune said that the model has maintained a fund to accompany and help women, children and fishermen. In addition, the joint efforts of the model members show the love for the sea of ​​each Binh Minh resident.

“For them, the sea is life, homeland and their whole life, so in one way or another, that love is expressed through daily actions to together propagate and mobilize everyone to join hands to protect the marine environment,” said Ms. Ngoc.

"clever" in all fields

Every year, the Women's Union of Thang Binh district directs the grassroots to specify the tasks of the union and the locality to build, maintain, and replicate the "Skilled Mass Mobilization" model in all fields, and include it in the emulation covenant for the grassroots to focus on implementation.

Ms. Tran Thi Thu Nguyet - Vice President of the Women's Union of Thang Binh district said that the union focuses on propaganda work to raise awareness of implementing the model of "Skilled Mass Mobilization" associated with "Studying and following the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh ", the emulation movement "Building Vietnamese women of the new era", building new rural areas, civilized urban areas"... From there, build and maintain the activities of 139 "Skilled Mass Mobilization" models in the union's fields of operation.

Typically in building new rural areas and civilized urban areas, the Women's Union has promoted the role of its members through the models "Clean house, beautiful garden", "Building a family of 5 no's, 3 clean, 5 yes's, 3 clean", "Women classify solid waste at source"...

Notably, the District Women's Union launched the construction of 62 "bright - green - clean - beautiful" self-managed women's roads, eliminating long-standing garbage hotspots, creating a clean and beautiful environmental landscape in the localities.

Implementing the emulation movement "Skillful mass mobilization" associated with "Promoting learning and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" in the field of social security, the Women's Union at all levels built 31 models, attracting more than 3,000 members to participate. Through the models, more than 3 tons of rice and nearly 50 million VND were collected to help more than 300 women and children in difficult and lonely circumstances.

A typical highlight in the “Skillful Mass Mobilization” movement is that recently, all levels of the association have responded to and implemented the “Godmother” program launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union. Up to now, the association is sponsoring 282 children with an amount ranging from 300,000 VND to 2 million VND/month/child.

“Every year, the association continues to maintain and improve the quality of the “Skilled Mass Mobilization” models, focusing on the content and form of activities suitable to practical needs to attract members to participate.

In addition, we regularly check, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the "Smart Mass Mobilization" models, promptly detect and replicate advanced models and examples in various fields. At the same time, we will learn from experience and overcome limitations to implement the model more and more effectively," said Ms. Nguyet.
