This is Phuong My Chi's performance in the first round of the finals. In this round, the contestants split into pairs and sang duets with guest artists. Phuong My Chi chose to sing Lac Troi in Vietnamese and Chinese with veteran singer Hoang Linh.
Lac Troi is a song composed by Son Tung M-TP, released in 2017, currently attracting 280 million views on YouTube.
With the new arrangement from DTAP combined with the symphony orchestra, the song Lac troi qua performed by Phuong My Chi and Hoang Linh became new, emotional, and imbued with modern Asian sounds. The performance was scored 202.8 points by the judges (highest in the duet round).

"I want to bring the audience a feeling that is both familiar and new, when Vietnamese music is combined with Chinese. A little bit of exchange, a little bit of creativity and more than that, a connection between cultures," Phuong My Chi said about the performance Lac Troi.
The audience commented that Phuong My Chi and Hoang Linh coordinated well, singing high and low notes in harmony. The overall performance was smooth, without any disjointed melody or emotion despite being performed by 2 singers from 2 different countries.
In particular, despite singing a duet with a Chinese artist, Phuong My was not at all overshadowed, but instead had many moments of shining thanks to her powerful voice. Thanks to that, the Lac Troi version received even more positive reactions from the audience.
Many people commented that Phuong My Chi "sings better than the original", but she responded: "Being able to sing Son Tung M-TP's song is already a happiness, so I don't want any comparisons."

Besides, there are also controversies that this version of Lac Troi does not have many highlights. Compared to the original version performed by Son Tung M-TP, the new remix is arranged to suit the soprano voices of Phuong My Chi and Hoang Linh, but lacks the rap part and loses the characteristic ghostly atmosphere of the original.
Some comments: "This performance is a bit weak compared to Phuong My Chi's previous successful performances at Sing! Asia "; "This new arrangement is not bad, but Son Tung M-TP's music is still most suitable for Son Tung"; "Son Tung's singing is pleasing to the ears, while Phuong My Chi and Hoang Linh's singing sounds emotional"...
"Maybe because Bong phu hoa is so good, I expected more from the final. Lac troi is also good but not "satisfying". I feel like if Phuong My Chi chose another song, she could have performed much better," commented an audience member.
There are also comments that, whether or not she performs the song Lac Troi well, Phuong My Chi has made a great effort in promoting Vietnamese culture and music to international audiences.
Sharing her feelings after finishing her journey at Sing! Asia , Phuong My Chi said: "To me, Asia is no longer something far away in books or on TV screens, but appears close right in this competition.
I feel the Asian spirit from the smallest things, the way the contestants tell stories, behave, to the very unique culture of each country. The Asia that I see are lovely, profound and inspiring friends."
