PNJ launches 0-dong mini supermarket to support people in the North after storms and floods

(Dan Tri) - In the face of serious damage caused by storms and floods in the Northern provinces, the 0 Dong Mini Supermarket program was quickly launched to promptly support people to soon stabilize their lives and overcome difficult times.

Two consecutive storms Bualoi and Matmo have caused prolonged heavy rains, leading to serious flooding in many localities in the Northern region. Tens of thousands of houses are still submerged, many roads are cut off, household items are severely damaged; thousands of hectares of crops, barns and aquatic products are destroyed...

Faced with that situation, in order to promptly share difficulties and provide urgent support for necessities and essential items for people, Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ) quickly coordinated with the Golden Trust Fund to activate the "0 Dong Mini Supermarket" model.

Phase 1 of the program kicked off on October 14 in three localities: Linh Son ward, Trung Thanh ward and Diem Thuy commune in Thai Nguyen province - locations that suffered a lot of damage to houses and livelihoods after storms and floods.

The program is implemented from voluntary contributions from PNJ staff, with an initial total budget estimated at about 1 billion VND.

Supermarkets are organized on-site and mobile to provide essential goods, essential foods, and basic living items suitable for the needs of people in flooded areas. Through free shopping vouchers worth 400,000 VND, people can freely choose items at the supermarket that suit their family's actual needs.

The households receiving support are all policy families, poor households, near-poor households and households in difficult circumstances severely affected by storms and floods. The list was reviewed by the Fatherland Front Committee of wards and communes in coordination with residential groups and proposed to participate in the 0 VND Mini Supermarket program.

In the coming time, PNJ plans to continue to cooperate with localities to expand the model to some neighboring areas, and continue to call on staff, partners, etc. to join hands to contribute to the program. Every companionship, no matter how small, contributes to giving strength to people in disaster areas to soon stabilize their lives.

PNJ representative shared: “The spirit of serving society has always been a part of PNJ’s DNA. We understand that after the flood recedes, people still face countless difficulties in restoring their lives and livelihoods.

Faced with that situation, PNJ quickly mobilized resources to deploy the 0-dong Mini Supermarket model to promptly share difficulties with people in flood-affected areas. Through the program, we hope that people will not only receive material support, but also feel the companionship, sharing and love from the community."

“Zero-dong mini supermarket” is a typical initiative in PNJ's social responsibility strategy, initiated in 2021. After 4 years of implementation, the program has accompanied hundreds of thousands of disadvantaged people across the country.

Extending the humanitarian meaning of the project, this model was first deployed by PNJ to support people in flood-affected areas, demonstrating the business's quick and flexible response to emergency situations, as well as the spirit of "acting immediately to share in time".

This is not only a short-term, timely support activity but also a continuation of PNJ's 37-year journey of social responsibility with the statement "Acting responsibly to honor the beauty of people and life in a sustainable way".
