Supply cannot meet demand
Due to the impact of storm No. 3 ( Yagi ), forestry production and planted forest areas in the province were greatly damaged, leading to an increase in the demand for seedlings for afforestation in 2025 (twice as much as in 2024). From October 2024 to present, the whole province has produced 28.8 million forestry seedlings of all kinds (a decrease of 2 million trees compared to the same period in 2024). The main reason is that from October 2024 to mid-April 2025, the weather was dry, people could not plant forests, so the seedlings were kept in nurseries for a long time, and the nurseries could not rotate to sow new crops.

In Yen The district, in the 2025 crop season, 85 establishments have registered to produce and trade forestry seedlings. Since the beginning of the year, the price of forestry seedlings has increased sharply. Eucalyptus ranges from 2 to 3 thousand VND/tree; acacia from 2.5 to 2.7 thousand VND/tree (doubled compared to the same period last year). However, up to this point, the nurseries have basically sold out all the trees that meet the standards for export, mainly young trees remain. Among them are many new varieties with high productivity such as: Australian acacia, AH1 tissue acacia, BV10, BV16; new eucalyptus varieties such as: Cu vy DH32-26; DH32-29; DH32-42, U16, U6, CL91...
Mr. Tran Van Dung, Director of Dung Ngan Plant Seed Production and Trading One Member Limited Liability Company, Bo Ha town (Yen The) said: “Since the beginning of the year, we have sold more than 1 million acacia and eucalyptus seedlings to the markets of the Northern, Central and Central Highlands provinces. There are about 200,000 seedlings left in the garden but they are not old enough to sell. Although the selling price has doubled, the garden does not have enough seedlings to supply to customers. For eucalyptus, from sowing to sale is about 3 months, for acacia about 3.5 months. To meet market demand, we are actively preparing the nursery ground, hiring workers to plant seedlings for the new crop rotation”.
Similarly, other seedling suppliers such as Hung Nhung Seedling Production and Trading One Member Limited Liability Company, Toan Nam Forestry One Member Limited Liability Company (Bo Ha town), Mr. Ly Chu Phat’s household, Hoang Van Senh, Vo Tranh commune (Luc Nam)… all have a situation of supply not meeting demand. Customers from many provinces and cities contacted to place orders but these establishments all refused.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ba Kien, Head of Yen The Forest Protection Department, identifying the importance of seedlings for afforestation, from the beginning of the year the unit has organized inspections and closely monitored the production and supply stages. At the same time, it has conducted inspections of records and papers proving the origin of seedlings imported by establishments. However, in the area, there are some establishments that buy seedlings from other places for business without complete records proving the origin and source according to regulations, which may affect the quality of planted forests later. Violations have been recorded by the competent authorities and handled according to regulations.
Strictly handle violations
Bac Giang province currently has more than 130 forestry seed production and trading establishments in the districts of Son Dong, Luc Ngan, Luc Nam, Yen The and Lang Giang. Since the beginning of the year, the whole province has planted more than 7,000 hectares of concentrated forests, reaching 70% of the plan (an increase of more than 3,000 hectares compared to the same period in 2024). Currently, taking advantage of favorable weather, localities continue to promote afforestation and scattered tree planting.

Despite the high demand, the capacity of some forestry seed production and trading establishments in the area is still limited, basically still manual and spontaneous. Many places do not ensure facilities, capacity, and professional qualifications, especially in the current period, the demand for new varieties, produced by high technology (tissue culture) requires a team of highly qualified and well-trained technical staff.
Mr. Ha Minh Quy, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said that in order to manage quality and promptly overcome shortcomings and limitations in the management of forestry seedlings, the Department has increased propaganda and guided nursery facilities to introduce new, high-yield varieties with records of origin into production. Forest growers are advised to choose to buy seedlings at reputable, quality production facilities; do not plant the same species of tree for more than two consecutive cycles in the same location.
At the same time, the Department of Agriculture and Environment strengthens the inspection and handling of violations in the production and trading of forestry plant varieties according to regulations, especially the production and trading of seedlings without documents proving their origin, and does not allow the situation of floating, unknown origin, and poor quality forestry seedlings to circulate on the market. Proactively announce and publicly post the list of qualified forestry plant variety production and trading establishments for the people and forest owners to know.
Strictly handle violations against establishments that self-produce seedlings by cuttings but do not carry out procedures for recognizing forestry seed sources (not yet recognized by competent state agencies as parent tree gardens). Promptly issue documents notifying owners of expired seed sources, and post information about establishments that are qualified to produce and trade seeds in the province on the website of the Department of Agriculture and Environment.
The Department also strengthens the direction of forest rangers to closely follow the grassroots, proactively advising localities to effectively perform the state management function of forestry plant varieties. It strictly prohibits acts of hoarding goods and taking advantage of shortages to push up prices.
