Voters of Uong Bi City hope that the province and locality will pay attention to investing in rebuilding the City Medical Center, which is currently degraded, very cramped, and unable to meet the medical examination and treatment needs of local people .
Uong Bi City Medical Center was built before 1995 and upgraded in 2008. The Center's headquarters is in Quang Trung Ward, with an area of 3 floors and about 1,500m2 ; Nam Khe Regional General Clinic is shared with Nam Khe Ward Medical Station; Methadone Treatment Facility in Trung Vuong Ward and 10 ward and commune medical stations provide primary health care.
With a scale of 35 beds (planned beds), including the main working areas and some auxiliary works (generator house, water pump, garage, warehouse, laundry area, solid waste collection area, etc.), all have not been fully arranged; the working space of the Center is quite cramped, lacking uniformity, and does not meet operational requirements. The reception area, the area for patients waiting for examination, at the Central General Clinic area, can only accommodate about 70 seats; there is a lack of space for examination rooms, functional rooms, and warehouses.
Witnessing the medical examination here, we saw the waiting area full of people, standing in the hallways. The main people coming to see a doctor are the elderly, people with chronic diseases, and people with health insurance cards registered for examination at the Center. Ms. Hoang Thi Bich (Zone 7, Thanh Son Ward) said: "I have been seeing a doctor at this Medical Center for many years. The number of people coming to see a doctor is increasing day by day, while the facilities are cramped and currently degraded. We hope that the province will soon pay attention to investing in upgrading and building a new Medical Center so that people have better conditions for medical examination and treatment."
Despite being cared for and maintained every year, due to insufficient space, narrow structure and architecture, and outdated construction standards, the clinics and operating rooms are almost unsuitable for their space. Over time, many items have deteriorated. The above physical conditions have affected the unit's operations.
Mr. Vu Hai Binh, Director of Uong Bi City Medical Center, said: Currently, the Center has 75 staff, including more than 20 doctors, arranged into 9 departments and rooms; examining and treating 300-500 patients per day. With the city's population increasing, the need for health care and protection of the people is increasing, the current facilities cannot meet the requirements. The wish of the Center's staff as well as the city's people is that the province and city pay attention to investing in building a new Center, ensuring it is more spacious, synchronous, and meets the requirements of the task.
It is known that the Provincial People's Committee has approved the Project to strengthen facilities and equipment to improve the capacity of Quang Ninh medical facilities in 2023 (Decision No. 768/QD-UBND). In which, the Uong Bi City Medical Center is invested in repairing and upgrading, with a total cost of about 3.7 billion VND, including: Repairing and maintaining facilities at the Center's headquarters (Quang Trung ward); repairing the Nam Khe Regional General Clinic and purchasing additional equipment. The province assigned the Department of Planning and Investment to receive the direction of the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee at the meeting on March 31, 2023; in which, consider and synthesize the investment project to repair the Uong Bi City Medical Center into the plan to implement programs and invest in new construction in the period of 2024-2025 to advise the Provincial People's Committee to report to competent authorities for approval.
