The Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) campaign to capture the city of Pokrovsk continues. While the Pokrovsk district in the west of the city is largely under RFAF control, the battle for the Myrnohrad district in the east of the city continues. In fact, what was taking place in Myrnohrad could hardly be called a battle in the “classical” sense. With the Ukrainian garrison (or rather what remained of it) surrounded, the fighting essentially turned into a mopping-up operation.
Kiev refused President Putin’s request to allow journalists to witness the encirclement of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU). As a result, the Russians continued their offensive campaign, destroying the Ukrainian defenders; although the AFU’s defensive actions in the true sense had ceased. According to Western analysts, the situation in Myrnohrad is no longer about who will win (that is obvious), but about how many days are left for the Ukrainian forces stationed in Myrnohrad, which are completely surrounded, to surrender or be completely destroyed. The AFU’s defensive operations at Myrnohrad were reduced to chaotic movement from house to house, from floor to floor. The maneuvering in the “compressed space” of a local area often ended as soon as a 152 mm artillery shell or rocket, FPV UAV hit a building with one or more firing points. In some areas, the Ukrainian forces, after suffering significant losses, are trying to withdraw from areas that were considered well-defended just a few days ago. They are retreating after being “suppressed” by numerous FPV drone attacks, which have left them unable to raise their heads; but the new areas are no more peaceful. This is a typical situation of encirclement, with all chances of escape lost. Rybar channel reported that RFAF has started to advance on the southwestern outskirts of Gryshyne village. Local authorities said that a large AFU stronghold in the forested area between the M-30 highway and Gryshyne village is now under Russian control. The decision was reportedly made after Ukrainian troops in Myrnohrad refused to surrender.
It is no secret that Gryshyne is where the AFU General Staff is currently concentrating troops and heavy weapons, in order to break the siege of the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad area. The importance of this village has doubled, after attempts to break the siege from the direction of Shakhove towards Rodinske failed. Therefore, starting the offensive on the Gryshyne stronghold seemed to be a logical step for the RFAF Group Center commander. Destroying the Ukrainian troops concentrated there would extinguish the hope of breaking the encirclement of the Ukrainian troops encircled at Myrnohrad. Moreover, as experts note, if successful, the RFAF will be able to control the fire on the bypass route from Novooleksandrivka. This will essentially turn the entire area into a giant encirclement. However, despite the threatening situation, Kiev refuses to admit defeat, demanding that Ukrainian troops in Pokrovsk continue to fight. In the current situation, the RFAF has only one option, which is to continue tightening the siege, destroying the surrounded Ukrainian troops and the forces trying to break into it. With the Ukrainian defense forces still in Myrnohrad, Russia used the FAB-3000 super bomb, weighing up to 3 tons, to attack. Topcor.ru published a video online, showing the exact moment a super bomb FAB-3000, dropped from a Russian Su-34 aircraft, struck a Ukrainian military position in the Myrnohrad urban area.
Objective surveillance video, showing the three-ton FAB, equipped with a guidance and correction module (UMPK), accurately hit a Ukrainian position, a fire and smoke rose and the target was destroyed. While the RFAF tightened its grip on the Pokrovsk-Mirnograd area, the remaining Ukrainian troops retreated to Myrnograd, where they fortified their positions in high-rise buildings, hoping to continue fighting the Russians in street fighting. However, frequent airstrikes with heavy bombs prevented the Ukrainians from organizing a defense, destroying the high-rise buildings in which they established their positions. Given that each FAB-3000 bomb contains almost 1.5 tons of explosives, equivalent to the warhead of three Iskander missiles, it is impossible to hide from such an attack in a building. Therefore, it is clear that further attempts by the AFU to continue resistance in Myrnograd will only lead to losses.
Meanwhile, the AFU General Staff has also prepared a plan for the fall of Pokrovsk. According to some information, the Ukrainian army has prepared to retreat to the city of Kostiantynivka, where the remaining combat-ready units of the AFU are being redeployed.
