Local flavors leave a mark on visitors' hearts
During this year's holiday, many international tourist groups chose Quang Binh as their destination. Ms. Cateline, 39 years old, a tourist from France, shared: "Your dishes are not only beautifully presented but also have a very unique and impressive flavor. I especially like grilled fish and rice cakes served with spicy spices like pepper - very fragrant and delicious. Together with the wonderful scenery in Phong Nha - Tien Son, the culinary experience really made my family's trip more complete."
International tourists enjoy cuisine
Not only international visitors, many Vietnamese tourists are also excited to enjoy the specialties. Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, a tourist from Hanoi , said: "I have been to many provinces, but when I came to Quang Binh, I was impressed by the simplicity in the way of cooking. Banh bot loc, chao canh or grilled river fish all have very unique flavors, both familiar and typical of the Central region. These dishes make me feel like I am enjoying a family meal."
It is the combination of natural landscapes and local cuisine that makes Quang Binh not only a tourist destination, but also a cultural experience.
The development of tourism has brought many opportunities for the service industry, especially businesses and food stores. Mr. Tran Quang Minh, owner of a restaurant in Dong Hoi City, shared: "The number of customers increases rapidly during peak seasons, especially during holidays. Thanks to that, we have the conditions to invest more in space, menu and service. Tourists enjoy rustic dishes such as khoai fish, male snails, banh beo... so we always try to keep the traditional flavor but still present it beautifully to suit international guests".
Enjoy the food
Some street food shops have also started to benefit. Ms. Hoang Thi Lan, owner of a banh khoai shop near Dong Hoi station, said: "Foreign tourists are often curious about how to make banh khoai. Sometimes they ask to come into the kitchen to watch me make the banh khoai and try it themselves. Thanks to the large number of customers, my family's income is much more stable."
Cultural connection – sustainable development
Many tourism culinary competitions and performances organized by the Tourism Promotion Information Center have attracted a large number of visitors. The events not only help improve chefs' skills, but also serve as a playground to promote typical dishes, affirming the Quang Binh culinary brand on the tourism map.
Typical dishes in Phong Nha - Ke Bang
Cuisine is not only food, but also a cultural bridge between Quang Binh people and tourists. Many chefs consider this an opportunity to show off their talents, exchange experiences and learn from each other. Traditional dishes such as grilled fish, porridge, tapioca dumplings, and fried rice cakes have become their own brands, contributing to enhancing the local image.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, representative of a travel agency in Ninh Binh, commented: "Tourists coming to Quang Binh are often interested in a comprehensive experience, not just visiting scenic spots. When combined with culinary exploration, the tour becomes more attractive. This is also a sustainable direction to extend the length of stay and increase tourists' spending."
In the context of the tourism industry recovering strongly after the pandemic, linking cuisine with tourism development is considered one of the important strategies. Rustic, friendly dishes but containing cultural quintessence will continue to be "spiritual specialties", attracting tourists every time they come to Quang Binh.
