Quang Binh is a province with two main ethnic groups, the Chut and the Bru-Van Kieu. Ethnic minorities in Quang Binh live mainly in Tuyen Hoa, Minh Hoa, Le Thuy and Bo Trach districts. In the 2024 survey to collect information on the socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities, Quang Binh conducted it in 107 areas with 7,041 households in 18 communes. Of which, 21 areas were fully surveyed, with 2,093 households; 86 sample areas with 4,948 households.
Due to the characteristics of the Chut ethnic group living in a decentralized manner, some villages are 3 to 4 days' walk from the commune center. In particular, many Chut ethnic households do not speak the common language clearly, cannot remember the birth dates of family members, etc., which are great difficulties in the process of investigating and collecting information at the grassroots level.
Foreseeing the difficulties, the Quang Binh Provincial Statistics Office has paid attention to selecting enumerators, investigation team leaders and supervisors according to the correct standards. During the selection process, the Quang Binh Provincial Statistics Office has prioritized local people with a high sense of responsibility, understanding the culture and residential areas of ethnic minorities. Accordingly, the whole province has recruited and mobilized 28 supervisors (provincial and district levels), 17 investigation team leaders and 107 enumerators.
Before starting the investigation and data collection on the socio -economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities, the Quang Binh Provincial Statistics Office organized 02 provincial-level training sessions and 02 district-level training sessions. After the training, 100% of the supervisors, surveyors, and enumerators understood and correctly practiced the methods and techniques of information collection and data collection.
In parallel with this preparation work, the Quang Binh Provincial Statistics Office has consulted and coordinated with authorities at all levels to strengthen propaganda and dissemination work in many forms such as: Banners, slogans, letters to village elders, village chiefs, prestigious people in the community, letters sent on behalf of others; mp3 files of questions and answers about the survey.

On July 1, 2024, the Provincial Statistics Office held a launching ceremony for the Investigation and Collection of Information on the Socio-Economic Status of 53 Ethnic Minorities in 2024 in Thuong Hoa Commune, Minh Hoa District. The launching ceremony was held solemnly, with important significance in the propaganda work to create consensus among the People; the attention and support of local Party Committees and authorities for the Statistics Office in collecting information in the area.
After the launching ceremony, the enumerators conducted surveys and collected information in 86 sample survey areas of the Bru Van Kieu ethnic group. The number of households selected for household questionnaire survey was 2,490 households, an average of 29 households per sample survey area. For the 21 survey areas of the entire Chut ethnic group, the number of households surveyed for household questionnaire survey was 1,352 households; an average of 64 household questionnaires per Chut ethnic group survey area.
In Mo O O O village, Thuong Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, where the Chut ethnic group mainly lives, the enumerators went to each house to collect information from each individual and complete the household registration form. Because the village chief had informed them in advance, all households were present at home to cooperate and provide complete and accurate information to the enumerators. Thanks to that, the investigation and collection of information on the socio-economic situation went smoothly in terms of both time progress and quality of collected data.

Sharing with reporters of the Ethnic and Development Newspaper, Mr. Cao Xuan Long, Head of Mo O O O village, said: Through the dissemination of officials, he clearly understood that the investigation and collection of information on the socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities in 2024 is an important investigation. The investigation and collection of information must ensure both time and progress, and the quality of the collected information.
“The village has 100% of the households being ethnic Chut people. I have specifically announced the schedule of the cadres coming to the village to collect information so that people can grasp and arrange to stay at home. Along with that, I also told people to understand the role and significance of this information collection investigation so that they can provide accurate information to the Enumerator,” said Village Chief Cao Xuan Long.
After many efforts, by August 10, 2024, the whole province had completed 100% of the investigation work to collect information on the socio-economic situation in 107 localities, exceeding the plan according to the general schedule.
By August 30, provincial and district supervisors had completed the work of marking ethnicity, industry code, and occupation code for Form 02/DTTS-HO. It is expected that from September 15 to September 30, 2024, the Quang Binh Provincial Statistics Office will continue to prepare necessary contents to ensure the acceptance of survey results between the General Statistics Office and the Department in accordance with the requirements of the prescribed Survey Plan.
