Quang Binh: One person died after being bitten by a rabid dog

On July 15, Mr. Do Quoc Tiep, Director of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of Quang Binh province, said that in Dong Hoi city, a death due to rabies had just been recorded.

According to Mr. Tiep, the victim was Mr. NTH (born in 1974, working in the armed forces, in Dong Son ward, Dong Hoi city).

According to the investigation of CDC Quang Binh, on March 3, 2023, the patient was bitten by a neighbor's dog, the wound was on the index finger of the right hand, not much bleeding, after being bitten, the wound was treated by washing with water, other than that, no intervention was done and no rabies vaccination was given.

Two days later, the dog died. On July 12, the patient was so exhausted that he was taken to the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi for treatment. There, the doctor diagnosed him with rabies. He was then transferred to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, where the doctor sent him home. He died on July 14.

According to Mr. Tiep, as soon as the case was reported, Dong Son Ward Health Station conducted an epidemiological investigation. There, another case of rabid dog bite was discovered.

Area where dogs attack victims

The victim was TMQ (born in 2012, residential group 6, Dong Son ward). Q. was also bitten by the above dog in the shoulder area. Immediately afterwards, Q.'s family took Q. to CDC to get the correct dose of rabies serum and vaccine. Currently, Q.'s health is normal.

Previously, on May 21, a girl named NGH (born in 2020, Thuan Hoan village, Dong Hoa commune, Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh) also died from a rabid dog bite.
