Landslide at Km195 on the West branch of Ho Chi Minh Highway, through Huong Viet commune, Huong Hoa district

According to the Border Guard of Quang Tri province, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, at about 6:30 a.m. on June 13, at Km 195 on the Ho Chi Minh Highway, West branch, through Huong Viet commune (Huong Hoa district), a landslide occurred, with an estimated volume of about 50m³, causing a complete traffic jam through the area.

Immediately after the incident, the authorities promptly deployed safety measures, dispatched a working group of 3 officers to coordinate with local authorities to set up barriers at the foot of the pass, strictly prohibiting people and vehicles from moving through the dangerous area, and at the same time monitoring geological developments to have a plan for further handling.

Landslide of a household's house in A Bung commune, Dakrong district

Previously, at around 6:00 p.m. on June 12, in Cu Tai 2 village, A Bung commune, Dakrong district, a landslide occurred at the house of Mr. Vo Van Cuong (born in 1973). Prolonged heavy rain combined with rising river water completely collapsed the wall behind the house, swept away a car, and threatened the safety of a truck parked near the landslide area. Fortunately, the vehicle was promptly rescued by authorities, causing no human casualties.

According to the La Lay International Border Post, the initial cause was determined to be the newly built house being close to the stream, and the embankment was not yet safe when encountering large water flows. Property damage was estimated at around 500 million VND.

That very night, La Lay Border Guard Station mobilized 10 officers and soldiers to coordinate with local forces to support the movement of assets and belongings in Mr. Cuong's house to a safe place, and at the same time organized a review of households living near the risky area to coordinate with local authorities to mobilize evacuation, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property.

Currently, authorities are continuing to monitor the weather situation, deploy measures to prevent landslides, and proactively respond, not being surprised by the unusual developments of floods and rains.

Lao Bao Border Guard Station evacuates households to safety

According to Lao Bao Border Guard Station, from 7:00 p.m. on June 12 to the morning of June 13, moderate to heavy rain occurred in the area, causing the water level of the Se Pon River to rise, causing flooding at some border management posts and Duy Tan Hamlet, Lao Bao town.

Faced with the complicated developments of the floods, the unit proactively relocated weapons, equipment, assets, officers and soldiers to safe locations. At the same time, Lao Bao Border Guard Station closely coordinated with local authorities, police and militia forces to promptly relocate 143 households with 465 people, along with 160 cows, 55 pigs, 120 goats, goods and essential items to safe places.

Currently, there is still heavy rain in the area. The unit has arranged about 20 officers and soldiers to be on duty at key points and residential areas to promptly support people when necessary.

According to the report of the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control of Quang Tri province, as of 7:30 a.m. on June 13, Dakrong district recorded many flooded areas from 1-3.5m deep at culverts and spillways, separating highland communes such as Ba Nang, A Vao, A Ngo, and Huc Nghi.

In Hai Lang district, more than 1,486 households were flooded; many inter-commune and inter-village roads were cut off, some of which were flooded over 1 meter deep.

Heavy rain broke half of the dam in A Xau village (Lia commune, Huong Hoa), threatening the production safety of 7 hectares of rice fields.

In Quang Tri town, 285 houses were flooded, of which 70 houses were flooded over 1 meter deep; local authorities evacuated 25 households to safety.

The whole province has about 18,337 hectares of rice and 996 hectares of crops flooded; heavy damage is concentrated in Hai Lang, Trieu Phong, and Vinh Linh districts.

Regarding response work, the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue has issued an urgent dispatch, requesting localities to proactively respond to storm No. 1 and accompanying floods, organize 24/7 on-duty and evacuate people in high-risk areas.

As of the morning of June 13, the entire province had evacuated more than 400 households in Dakrong, Huong Hoa, and Hai Lang districts to safety.
