Full Moon of the First Lunar Month: Markets are packed with customers, and delivery drivers are busy delivering chickens for offerings starting from 2 AM.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - On the morning of February 12th (the 15th day of the first lunar month), despite the drizzling rain in Hanoi from early morning, crowds of people flocked to traditional markets to shop for items to offer as sacrifices for the 15th day of the first lunar month.

According to the saying "All the celebrations throughout the year are not as important as the first full moon of the year," this year the full moon falls on a weekday, so many families went to the market very early to buy items to offer to their ancestors.

This morning, Hanoi experienced drizzle and very cold weather, significantly affecting traffic and daily life for residents of the capital city.

At Hang Be Market, Gia Ngu Street (Hoan Kiem District), from early morning, people flocked to buy goods for the Lunar New Year's full moon ceremony. With a wide variety of items such as chicken, sticky rice, sweet soup, and pork sausage, this is always a popular shopping destination for Hanoi residents during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year).

As usual, the "boiled chicken with rose petals" has become a signature dish of Hang Be market. From 2 AM, many shops are busy preparing and decorating their chickens to serve customers.

At Hang Be market, some businesses serve customers with pre-prepared feasts featuring traditional dishes such as boiled chicken, bamboo shoot soup, gac fruit sticky rice, spring rolls, etc.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quy (on the right) is busy carrying bags of offerings to deliver to customers. Ms. Quy said that these are complete offering packages ordered by customers at her shop, with each "complete package" costing from 1 million VND.

Ms. Lam Le Thanh (Nguyen Luong Bang Street, Dong Da District) arrived early in the morning at traditional markets in Hanoi to buy items for the full moon offering ceremony. Ms. Thanh said that she occasionally goes to Hang Be Market to buy chicken for the ceremony because she trusts the quality there. According to her, prices haven't changed much compared to previous occasions.

Busy preparing from 2 AM with tasks such as cleaning, boiling, decorating, and transporting chickens, Duy Linh (an employee at a business on Hang Be Street) said that during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), customer demand is very high. On a normal day, about 20 customers place orders, but on holidays, the number can be 10 times higher.

On average, Mr. Linh delivers 30-50 orders to customers during a holiday.

Besides boiled chicken and sticky rice, items used for decoration or traditional dishes like fish ball soup are quite attractive to customers.

Observations at other markets such as Dong Xuan and Bac Qua... also show that many products for the full moon offering are being sold.

Late-blooming peach blossom branches are being sold at various prices, with a small branch averaging 40,000-50,000 VND.

At the beginning of the year, pomelo blossoms are a popular choice for many people to display on their altars. Reportedly, the price of pomelo blossoms during this time ranges from 30,000 to 40,000 VND per 100 grams.

Betel leaves and areca nuts are indispensable products during every holiday and Tet (Lunar New Year). Areca nuts cost 15,000 VND each, while a betel quid shaped like a phoenix wing costs 5,000 VND.
