According to AS , AFE and Real Madrid have filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport , asserting that coach Xabi Alonso and his team face health risks due to insufficient rest and preparation time for the 2025/26 season.
Meanwhile, La Liga maintained its stance and refused to postpone Los Blancos' opening match against Osasuna on August 20th.
Real Madrid players only had about three weeks of rest after completing the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in the United States. The team also did not have a pre-season training period like other clubs. Some Real Madrid players had to cut short their summer vacation to join the team on schedule.
AFE argues that the La Liga organizers' decision violates Spanish Labor Law and Sports Law. Both AFE and Real Madrid point to the league's inflexibility, which they believe harms the physical and mental health of the players. Osasuna, Real's rivals, did not object to the proposed schedule changes.
The final decision rests with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, with the 2025/26 La Liga season set to kick off on August 16th. If the appeal is granted, the La Liga organizers will have to adjust the fixture schedule to allow Real Madrid to play earlier.
