The Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament ) is arguing about the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) advancing in the north of Sumy Oblast. These arguments come against the backdrop of the Ukrainian General Staff trying to deny that the RFAF has expanded its zone of control in the northeast of Sumy Oblast as well as in the east of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast?

Ukrainian parliamentarian Maryana Bezuglaya was one of those who actively commented on the RFAF advance: “Do you know why the Russians advanced so quickly in the Sumy region? Because our generals and local authorities were not prepared for defense.”

Delegate Bezuglaya asked whether the defense lines in the Sumy region were prepared, whether fortifications were built. Ms. Bezuglaya said, “no one needs to explain this anymore, because the achievements of the Russians have proven everything.”

The Ukrainian parliamentarian, who called what is happening in the Sumy border region “an idealistic, calculated plot” by Ukrainian generals and local officials, asked: “The brigades are not ready, are they running away? Go to the occupied territories and find out if they are running away and are they ready to fight?”

Ms. Bezuglaya once again blamed the Ukrainian generals and local authorities for everything; but she forgot one important thing: Sumy was the bridgehead for the Ukrainian army (AFU) to attack the Russian province of Kursk...

In order for the cross-border attack on Kursk to take place secretly and unexpectedly, all the AFU's defensive construction activities in Sumy were not carried out. Now, after the RFAF defeated the Ukrainian army in Kursk, it is massively advancing, and Ukraine of course does not have time to build defensive structures.

Meanwhile, the RFAF has also used a number of new tactics that have helped them advance quickly at the Sumy border. Stanislav Bunyatov, a soldier of the 24th Independent Assault Battalion AFU, revealed the tactics used by the RFAF to neutralize enemy defenses in Sumy province, where his unit is fighting.

"We often use FPV UAVs to block Russian infantry, but the UAV operators are constantly hunted by the enemy and have to retreat to the rear. As a result, there are open fire zones instead of enemy destruction zones; creating an advantage for the Russian troops to attack," Bunyatov said.

The soldiers of the 24th Battalion admitted that the Ukrainian infantry was vulnerable to casualties without the fire support of the FPV UAVs, forcing them to withdraw from their defensive positions in Sumy province. "Only when we withdrew did the Russians send assault groups to seize the positions, supported by artillery fire, armored vehicles and FPV UAVs," Bunyatov said.

According to Bunyatov, to stop the Russian advance in Sumy, the AFU must find a way to stop the UMPK guided glide bombs, artillery and use all firepower against the enemy FPV UAV crews. Otherwise, the RFAF will gradually advance and approach the city of Sumy.

According to DeepState, an intelligence analysis group affiliated with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense , Russia has controlled nearly 190 square kilometers of territory in Sumy province within two weeks and is advancing further. But according to the Russian Military Review, the area controlled by the RFAF in the Kursk region is about 120 square kilometers.

Deep State said that the Russians are targeting the Khotin settlement and trying to gain a foothold in Malaya Korchakivka. These two locations are about 20 km from the city of Sumy. If the Russians control these areas, they can deploy FPV UAVs from there, attacking multiple targets in the city of Sumy.

The situation for the AFU on the front line, along the villages of Konstantinivka, Varachino, Yablonivka and Yunakivka, is difficult, as the RFAF Northern Group is trying to control residential areas and use forests to conceal its forces.

"The main strength of the RFAF comes from its large infantry force and many types of reconnaissance and fire support UAVs. With the "artillery first, assault second" tactic, combining infantry assault with massive use of FPV UAVs, armed UAVs attacking the logistics line and AFU's defensive positions," Deep State wrote. However, up to now, the Russian Ministry of Defense has not commented on the above information.

The Russian Military Review reported that the RFAF tactical air force has increased the number of attacks on AFU positions in the northern Sumy region. Currently, Ukrainian troops are concentrated along the N-07 road from Yunakivka to Pisarevka and the village of Khotin, as well as north of Vorozhba, which the AFU has turned into a bridgehead for an attack on the village of Tyotkino in Russia's Kursk region.

Deep State writes that Russian guided glide bombs of various sizes exploded along the Khotin-Yunakivka defense line. This is the main AFU defense line, tasked with protecting Sumy from the north; it is also the most fiercely fought. Currently, the AFU commander here is constantly calling for reinforcements.

On the night of June 7, the RFAF used a series of Geran-2 long-range suicide UAVs to attack AFU positions in the border area and other areas of Sumy Oblast. There was information about the attacks on assembly points, weapons depots, troop concentrations, and AFU UAV control centers in Sumy. (photo source Military Review, Ukrinform, Kyiv Independent).
