On February 2nd, world media reported that the Portuguese superstar was no longer happy with his current situation at Al Nassr. Manchester United, Ronaldo's former club, was considered a potential destination if CR7 wanted to return to Europe to play.
Amid speculation about a possible return to Old Trafford, former defender Wes Brown, who played alongside Ronaldo during Manchester United's most successful period, has spoken out.
Speaking on February 3rd, Brown suggested that a reunion was highly unlikely. “Ronaldo isn’t happy, but would he return to Manchester United for a third time? I don’t think so. I can’t imagine that happening. MLS might be an option, or he could return to Portugal to play. He would still have plenty of options,” Brown stated.
Brown also emphasized that Ronaldo's biggest goal right now is to continue playing in order to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, and believes that the current crisis at Al Nassr will eventually be resolved.

Meanwhile, the transfer market remains open for CR7, with clubs in MLS and Europe reportedly closely monitoring the situation. With a €50 million release clause in his contract, Ronaldo could leave Al Nassr if a team is willing to pay the money.
Furthermore, the relationship between Ronaldo and MU was strained after a controversial interview between CR7 and journalist Piers Morgan in late 2022. At that time, the Portuguese superstar spared no words in criticizing his former club, causing many "Red Devils" fans to turn their backs on him.
In the 2025/26 season, Ronaldo maintained his impressive goal-scoring record, but so far, the only title he has won with his new team is the 2023 Arab Champions League. Although Al Nassr is closely trailing Al Hilal in the SPL standings (just one point behind after 19 rounds), Ronaldo's dissatisfaction continues to grow.
