Ronaldo does not 'flatter' Saudi Arabia

Once controversial with his bold statements about the Saudi Pro League, Cristiano Ronaldo is now gradually proving to fans that he was right.

Previously on June 28, Ronaldo told Al Nassr media channel: "Saudi Pro League is in the top 5 leagues in the world and will continue to develop."

The 40-year-old striker reinforced his point: “We have time and the last two years have proven that. People who have never played football in Saudi Arabia do not understand football here and say that the league is not in the top 5 in the world. I believe 100% in what I say, and those who play in this league understand what I am saying."

That statement is not without basis. In recent years, Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in football, taking its national championship to new heights by recruiting a series of world-class superstars.

From Ronaldo himself, to Neymar, Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Riyad Mahrez or Roberto Firmino. The list goes on and on, making the Saudi Pro League an attractive destination for big names.

Many fans initially thought that these players were "old" and no longer had the quality to compete in Europe's top leagues. However, the results of teams like Al Hilal are proving that what Ronaldo said is completely correct.

Recently, Al Hilal excelled in advancing to the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 with a completely deserved victory over the "giant" Manchester City on the morning of July 1. This was a big shock, but also a strong affirmation from the representative from Arabia.

Instead of "retiring" as rumored, key players over 30 years old such as goalkeeper Bounou and center back Koulibaly have proven their worth by contributing greatly to helping the only representative from the Saudi Pro League confidently advance to the round of 8 strongest teams at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. And with impressive performances at the tournament, the Saudi Pro League in general and Al Hilal in particular have shown their position and standing on the world football map.

The attraction of top stars along with a methodical investment strategy is making the Saudi Pro League develop rapidly. Step by step, it is realizing the ambition of making Saudi Arabia one of the top leagues in the world, as the Portuguese superstar said.
