Ronaldo recreates amazing achievement

Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed the 20-goal mark in the Saudi Pro League (SPL) 2024/25 season, after scoring a double for Al Nassr in round 26.

In the early morning of April 5, the Portuguese star had a performance that delighted Al Nassr fans, scoring twice in a 3-1 victory over arch-rivals Al Hilal. Ronaldo scored a tricky volley in the 47th minute, before successfully converting a late penalty, bringing his total number of goals in the SPL this season to 21.

This is the 15th time in his career that CR7 has surpassed the 20-goal mark in the national championship in a season. In the past 17 years, only twice (2021/22 and 2022/23) has Ronaldo failed to score more than 20 goals in a national championship season.

Ronaldo first reached 20 goals in the national championship with Manchester United in the 2007/08 Premier League season. From the 2009/10 season to 2020/21, that is 12 consecutive years, he scored at least 20 goals a season in La Liga with Real Madrid or in Serie A with Juventus.

At 40, Ronaldo has scored a total of 930 career goals for club and country. He is 70 goals short of reaching 1,000. The win also revived Al Nassr's hopes of winning the Saudi Pro League. They are currently third, seven points behind leaders Al Ittihad.

Al Nassr were eliminated from the King's Cup and lost in the Saudi Super Cup final earlier this season. However, the team has advanced to the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League this season and will face Yokohama F. Marinos of Japan. Ronaldo therefore still has the opportunity to improve Al Nassr's scoring record and end their title drought in Saudi Arabia.
