Mr. Duong Van Ky, residing in Kim Son village, Luu Vinh Son commune, said: "Previously, this field usually grew one winter-spring rice crop. Since switching to growing F1 hybrid cucumbers, with high productivity and stable prices, my family has had an additional source of income. 2 sao of F1 hybrid cucumbers, after 2 months of planting and caring, yielded 2.2 - 2.5 tons of fruit. Selling price 8,000 - 12,000 VND/kg, my family earned more than 10 million VND."

According to Mr. Duong Van Ky, the F1 hybrid winter cucumber variety is planted in early October. After 40 - 45 days, the plant begins to flower and bear fruit and is harvested in December (dl) in time to prepare the land for spring rice production. After several years of production, it has been found that the F1 hybrid cucumber is easy to grow and very suitable for rice fields.

"To be effective, attention should be paid to soil preparation techniques, care, and pest control. After harvesting the summer-autumn rice crop, the soil is plowed thoroughly, loosened, raised into ridges, and fertilized with compost and lime powder to improve the pH.

Growing F1 hybrid cucumbers costs less, has a short season, is quick to harvest, and has a higher economic value than many other crops. The next rice crop does not require fertilization, reducing investment costs as well as care," said Mr. Ky.

According to the people, a 500m2 F1 hybrid cucumber pole can yield 1.2 - 1.5 tons of fruit. The selling price is 8,000 - 12,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, people earn 5 - 7 million VND/pole, after 50-60 days of planting.

F1 hybrid cucumber is a suitable crop for the land and farming practices of local people, with low investment costs and high income. Initially, people often invest about 3-4 million VND/sao to buy bamboo and nets to make trellis.
