At 6am, the road to Hang Mua (Hoa Lu city) was already crowded with people. At the foot of Ngoa Long mountain, the lotus pond was like a giant silk sheet, exuding a cool fragrance into the air. In the middle of the pond, the wooden bridge curved in the shape of a lotus flower stood out and became a meeting point for many lenses, ao dai, and conical hats.
Many young people choose to go to Hang Mua very early to “hunt for photos”. Trieu Phuong Nhu Ngoc, from Hanoi , traveled more than 100 km to see the lotus blooming season: “I prepared from 5 am to have time to put on makeup, rent costumes and take photos in the early morning sunlight. Because this was my first time coming to Hang Mua, I was really surprised by the vast, brilliant and poetic lotus pond. Nowhere else has impressed me like the lotus in Hang Mua, both beautiful and pure, bringing a very unique peacefulness of Ninh Binh”.
Lotus in Hang Mua does not appear naturally. It is the result of months of cultivation and care by skilled farmers and the tourist area management team.
Hang Mua lotus pond stretches across a swamp with an area of over 1 hectare, mainly growing Japanese lotus (red lotus). This year in particular, the pond is also decorated with water lilies and blood red lotus, contributing to creating a more brilliant, colorful and attractive scene than ever.
Mr. Do Duc Hoi, the person directly in charge of the technique at Hang Mua lotus pond, shared: “Since January, we have started to treat the soil, improve the field surface, and destroy old lotus roots to prepare for the new crop. Lotus care is carried out systematically, from basal fertilization to top dressing and pest control. Every morning I have to go to the pond to check, pick up trash, and cut off wilted leaves to keep the landscape clean.”
According to him, every day during peak season, Hang Mua lotus pond welcomes 1,500 to 2,000 visitors. On peak days, the number of visitors can double. The pressure is great, but it is also the motivation for the staff to take better care of the flowers every day, ensuring the beauty of the lotus pond for visitors.
Having been attached to Hang Mua throughout the four lotus seasons, Mr. Hoang Truong Son, a freelance photographer, is usually here from 5am, ready to help tourists take lotus photos early: “We always try to adjust our posture and find the best shooting angle, so that tourists can get satisfactory lotus photos. Normally, each photographer at Hang Mua can earn from 1.5 to 2 million VND a day. Especially on weekends, we photographers cannot take enough photos because there are too many visitors.”
Coming to Hang Mua in lotus season, visitors can not only immerse themselves in the beautiful lotus pond scenery in the middle of the majestic mountains and rivers of Trang An Scenic Complex, but also enjoy a cup of lightly scented lotus tea, feeling the rare peace. All combine to create an unforgettable experience, enough for a trip to find a peaceful place.
