Vinh Airport is expected to temporarily close from July 1, 2025.

Vinh Airport is expected to temporarily suspend operations for about 6 months, starting from July 1, 2025, to implement a large-scale infrastructure renovation and upgrade project.

According to the original plan, Vinh airport would close from the beginning of June 2025. However, after reviewing the preparation progress and related procedures, Vinh International Airport proposed to adjust the suspension date to July 1, 2025.

This adjustment is to facilitate relevant parties to complete documents and technical procedures; at the same time, promptly notify airlines, agents and passengers.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Tuan - Director of Vinh International Airport said: "This is just an estimated timeline and still needs an official written decision from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam. In the meantime, the airport will continue to operate normally to serve the people, especially during the peak summer tourist season."

The Vinh airport upgrade project has a total investment of nearly VND1,000 billion, divided into three main items: repairing runways and taxiways; expanding aircraft parking lots; renovating and expanding the domestic passenger terminal.

During the time Vinh airport is temporarily suspended, passengers in the North Central region will have to switch to neighboring airports such as Tho Xuan (Thanh Hoa) or Dong Hoi (Quang Binh). These are the two closest civil airports with relatively stable operating frequencies and are capable of receiving additional passengers from Nghe An .

Airlines will also proactively adjust flight schedules, open additional routes or increase operating frequencies at alternative airports to partially offset travel demand. Some travel companies have planned to transport passengers from Vinh City to Tho Xuan Airport by fixed-route buses or private contracts.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Ho Sy Nam - Chief Representative of the Northern Airport Authority at Vinh International Airport said: The temporary suspension of Vinh airport operations is necessary and cannot be delayed, in order to ensure safe operations in the context of infrastructure that has been continuously operated for many years. This is also a long-term preparation step to upgrade Vinh airport to become a strategic aviation gateway for the North Central region.

Vinh Airport is currently one of the important airports in the Central region, serving an average of more than 1.5 million passengers per year. After completing the upgrade, the operating capacity is expected to increase to about 2.5 - 3 million passengers per year, creating a driving force to promote the socio -economic development of Nghe An and neighboring provinces.
