Ready goods to serve the people

Lunar New Year is the “golden” time for agricultural cooperatives to boost product consumption and increase revenue when shopping demand increases. Therefore, many cooperatives in the province are making efforts to boost production and ensure supply to the market.

Tea products serving the Tet market are prioritized by Thai Minh Cooperative (in Van Han commune, Dong Hy) to use paper boxes.

Tea is an indispensable drink for many Vietnamese families, especially during the Lunar New Year. Therefore, at the end of the year, the amount of tea sold by enterprises, cooperatives (HTX) and production and trading households often increases compared to other months of the year.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Van, Director of Thai Minh Cooperative, Van Han Commune (Dong Hy), said: Normally, my family only has 2-3 workers, but at the end of the year, almost every day there are 5-10 workers. From now until Tet, the Cooperative plans to supply the market with about 5 tons of dried tea buds (an increase of more than 1 ton compared to last year's Tet), mainly tea products such as shrimp tea, hook tea and tea bags. The Cooperative mainly sells to supermarkets, stores, companies and businesses as Tet gifts.

Similar to tea cooperatives, cooperatives producing and trading other products in the province are also actively producing to serve the Tet market. Lang Tranh Production, Trade and Service Cooperative, Tuc Tranh Commune (Phu Luong) specializes in processing and producing foods: green tea braised fish, sausage, spring rolls, fried spring rolls; currently distributed at 10 agricultural product stores in and outside the province.

Mr. Le Van Toan, Director of Lang Tranh Production, Trade and Service Cooperative, shared: This year's Tet holiday, the Cooperative is expected to supply the market with about 1 ton of raw fish, 500 kg of sausage and 200 kg of various hams. Because self-produced raw materials are not enough, we are purchasing grass carp, black carp, and native black pigs from people in and outside the commune. These raw materials are mostly raised by people according to VietGAP standards.

There are currently 7 points of display and sale of cooperative products in the province, with annual operating costs supported by the Provincial Cooperative Union. The cooperatives not only sell their own products but also connect and cooperate with more than 100 units including production households, companies, and cooperatives inside and outside the province to sell hundreds of typical agricultural products and specialties that have been certified OCOP (of which, products from Thai Nguyen province account for 80-90%). Currently, staff at the above points are also busy making Tet gift baskets with a variety of agricultural products.

It is expected that during the New Year and Lunar New Year 2025, Phu Loc Cooperative, in Phan Dinh Phung Ward (Thai Nguyen City), will supply the market with about 1,000 gift baskets and gift boxes. This year, the Cooperative mainly uses rattan and high-quality paper to make baskets and gift boxes.

Ms. Le Thi Quynh Trang, Director of Phu Loc Cooperative, said: Tet gift baskets are designed by us according to the wishes and preferences of consumers. The price of each gift basket ranges from several hundred to millions of VND depending on the type of agricultural product. In addition to selling directly at points of sale and distributing to stores, agents, and businesses, the Cooperative also sells on e-commerce platforms and social networks (accounting for over 60% of the goods).

According to our observations at many cooperatives, the products serving the Tet market this year have unique and creative designs and patterns, and are cleverly integrated with images related to the traditional Tet of the nation; there are many price segments to meet the needs of consumers. Although the quantity of goods has increased, the basic prices are stable and have not fluctuated significantly compared to normal.

Thai Nguyen currently has 537 cooperatives, 5 cooperative unions and 297 agricultural cooperative groups. To date, the province has 273 products ranked OCOP from 3-5 stars (including 182 3-star products, 89 4-star products, 2 5-star products), of which 229 products are owned by cooperatives.
