The reason for the above situation is that in recent years, China has increased its imports of this item from Vietnam. There was a time when the price of durian was over 100,000 VND/kg, mango 30-40,000 VND/kg, watermelon over 20,000 VND/kg, gardeners competed to increase their acreage. After that, China "tightened" the quality of agricultural products, requiring goods to have a growing area code, a packaging facility code, and no pesticide residues... Many gardeners focused on increasing acreage and productivity, so they did not pay attention to quality, leading to many shipments being returned. In addition, the US-China trade tension affected the Chinese economy, causing purchasing power from this market to decrease, affecting Vietnam's exports.
Dong Nai has a large crop area with more than 300 thousand hectares of annual and perennial crops. In the future, when Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc provinces merge, the new Dong Nai province will have more than 740 thousand hectares of crops. Of which, the perennial industrial crops with large areas are: rubber, cashew, coffee, pepper and fruit trees with more than 82 thousand hectares. Thus, it is estimated that each year Dong Nai province can supply the market with more than 2.3 million tons of various agricultural products.
Currently, Dong Nai's agricultural products have been exported to more than 10 countries, but the majority of output is still concentrated in the Chinese market. Therefore, when this market fluctuates and imports decrease, farmers are affected. Meanwhile, Dong Nai's agricultural processing is still limited. Therefore, gardeners hope that the province and the Government will have more supportive policies for businesses so that they can boldly invest in connecting with farmers, opening more export markets and processing agricultural products. This will contribute to sustainable agricultural development.
