Since the Viet Minh Front was founded (in 1941), the first national salvation organizations of Hoa Binh province were established in Vang street and Suoi Rut town (Mai Chau district). From here, the revolutionary movement in Mai Chau spread, attracting the masses to participate, ready to seize the opportunity to revolt and seize power.
When the French colonialists returned to invade our country (in 1946), the people of Mai Chau responded to President Ho Chi Minh 's call for national resistance. With the spirit of "everyone resists, every family resists", the people of all ethnic groups both produced and fought to protect the strategic area in the west of Hoa Binh province. The people actively supported and protected the Tay Tien army; maintained the vital traffic route from Inter-zones 3 and 4 to the Northwest and Upper Laos.
During the resistance war against the US to save the country, with the spirit of "All for the front line", Mai Chau district sent 1,632 outstanding sons to join the army. Of these, 327 people heroically sacrificed on all battlefields, 500 people returned with injuries. During the period of 1965 - 1975, the army and people of Mai Chau joined the spirit of the whole country, both producing and fighting, supporting the great front line in the South: contributing 3,150 tons of food, 1,032 tons of food, mobilizing 100,000 working days to serve the battlefield.
