While working as a director and producer of many TV series, artist Hoang Map has returned to the classroom. At the age of over 50, he completed his master's degree at the Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema, and is expected to receive his diploma in June this year. For Hoang Map, this is a way for him to fulfill his unfinished dream from his youth, and at the same time, to set an example for his children in their efforts to conquer knowledge.

Hoang Map said that when he decided to "go to school" at the age of over 50, many people could not help but wonder. However, the male director believes that "you can study at any age, there is no distinction, the important thing is that you have more knowledge to do everything more maturely". From that thought, Hoang Map affirmed that he continued studying for his own good and to set an example for his children. "I am also thinking about whether I should study for a doctorate after receiving my diploma. Because for me, studying is never enough and it is never too late", he shared.

In October 2024, singer Duong Hong Loan shared a photo of herself receiving her bachelor's degree in law from Hue University, after a period of trying to balance singing with ensuring knowledge acquisition. Having graduated with honors from an intermediate accounting course and been involved in a singing career for many years, the female singer still chose to enroll in online study, with the desire to acquire new knowledge and explore herself. The graduation certificate is not only the "sweet fruit" of Duong Hong Loan's efforts, but also a source of motivation for her daughter when looking at her mother's example. "I think if I can't sing as much as I do now, maybe the knowledge I have will help me find a suitable job to help society," Duong Hong Loan shared.

Singer Nam Cuong also chose to return to school despite being a beloved singer and actor. At the age of 39, the male singer already had university degrees in Film and Television Directing, Cultural Management, and a second degree in English Language.

Ung Hoang Phuc also surprised everyone when he graduated from the intermediate level of Traditional Medicine at the age of 43. The male singer confided: "In the past, when I had just finished my high school graduation exam, I was like many others standing at a crossroads without knowing exactly what I wanted. At that time, I decided to choose the path of singing, and then became a professional singer after a lot of effort." Ung Hoang Phuc said that although going to school at the age of 40 was not easy, "nothing is too late".

Pressure comes with opportunity

The decision to return to school of Hoang Map, Duong Hong Loan or Ung Hoang Phuc… when shared on social networks once surprised many people. Because in reality, these artists already had a position in the profession, a stable source of income…, while returning to study is a difficult problem in terms of arranging and balancing time.

The diploma is the sweet fruit of Duong Hong Loan's efforts to balance studying and singing.

Duong Hong Loan also admitted that when she first studied at Hue University, she was quite comfortable because she didn't have much singing work. However, by 2023, the busy performance schedule made the singer from Dong Thap feel pressured. She said there were times when she had to sit in the car to go to the performance location and study online. The singer even had to sadly ask to take another class if her class schedule overlapped with her singing time. "But once I was determined, everything became smooth and easy," Duong Hong Loan expressed.

Hoang Map also admitted that when he is older and has a stable job, he has to face the challenge of time when he decides to return to school. He said: "If you go to school, you have to be serious. There are months when my schedule is so packed, I will not film so that I can focus on my studies. Not to mention, when you are older, it is more difficult to absorb new knowledge. That is the biggest obstacle."

By choosing to return to school at an older age, artists have also spread the inspiration to study to friends, relatives and fans. Hoang Map said: "I am over 50 years old and can still go to school, so people in their 20s and 30s can do it too if they try. At any age, if you are determined and try hard, you can do it."

Sharing the same point of view, Nam Cuong said that as long as you love it, have goals and are passionate enough, you can overcome any challenge. He once shared: "Clearly define the path you want to take, realize it through action, reach the set goals and create your own future and value."
