Welcome gate collapsed due to landslide in Dong Van commune, Tuyen Quang

On the morning of October 8, due to prolonged heavy rain, a landslide occurred on the slope of Highway 4C with a large volume of rock and soil of about 2,000m3, causing the welcome gate of Dong Van commune, Tuyen Quang province to collapse.

Dong Van Commune's welcome gate, inaugurated in November 2024, is 10.5m wide, 6.3m high, built from 740 stones, nearly 18.5m3 of wood and over 26,000 yin-yang tiles.

This is an architectural work, a cultural symbol of the people in the northernmost region of the country, a check-in point for tourists when coming to Dong Van commune in particular and Dong Van Stone Plateau in general.

Mr. Pham Duc Nam, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Van commune, said that when the welcome gate collapsed, the commune mobilized police, military , border guards and people to urgently clean up, and by noon of the same day, the dismantling of the welcome gate was completed.

Many rural roads in Dong Van commune were damaged by heavy rain.

Dong Van Commune Police have assigned forces to guide vehicles to avoid traffic and not allow people and vehicles to pass through the welcome gate area because of the high risk of landslides.

Also in Dong Van commune, heavy rains lasting from October 7 to the morning of October 8 caused dozens of landslides on traffic routes; some households are in high-risk landslide areas. Local authorities have mobilized forces to move households in landslide-prone areas to safety; and at the same time, cleared landslides to clear the roads.
