Merging Quang Binh and Quang Tri: Officials go to work by train every day

On May 16, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien informed that Deputy General Director of Vietnam Railway Corporation Nguyen Chinh Nam has just responded in writing (No. 1572 dated May 15, 2025) to the proposal of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee on organizing and serving the travel needs by train between Dong Hoi station (Quang Binh) and Dong Ha station (Quang Tri).

To serve the travel needs of about 400 passengers/day who are officials, civil servants, and people, Vietnam Railways Corporation proposed a plan to organize a pair of passenger trains from Dong Hoi station to Dong Ha station and vice versa.

Accordingly, the train departs from Dong Ha station at 5:10 a.m. and arrives at Dong Hoi station at 7:10 a.m.; the return trip departs from Dong Hoi station at 5:45 p.m. and arrives at Dong Ha station at 8:20 p.m. Each train consists of 7 soft-seat cars with air conditioning (64 seats/car) and 1 generator car, with a total of 448 seats. Regarding ticket prices, the expected fare for the entire route is from 63,000 - 92,000 VND/person/trip, depending on seat type and time.

Appreciating the attention and facilitation of the government and people of Quang Tri province for the railway industry, Vietnam Railway Corporation is ready to facilitate and support related contents to implement the project when requested by the People's Committee of Quang Tri province.

Regarding the proposal to adjust train schedules on the Dong Hoi - Dong Ha section, Vietnam Railways Corporation said that the current train schedule is unified on the entire Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line. Therefore, changing the passenger train schedule on this section will be carefully studied to match the stopping times of other trains in the unified schedule for the entire route.

"The province will work with the railway to request an increase in speed. The choice of train is to ensure safety, and at the same time, we can take advantage of the time on the train to handle additional work or personal needs," said Mr. Le Duc Tien.

Previously, on April 29, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province sent a document to the Ministry of Construction and Vietnam Railways Corporation requesting to adjust train schedules and open a pair of Dong Hoi - Dong Ha trains to meet the increased travel demand; especially the travel demand of about 1,300 cadres, civil servants and public employees after the merger of Quang Tri and Quang Binh provinces with the political - administrative center of the new province located in Dong Hoi.
