Scene of the landslide

The delegation of the District Party Committee, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Cho Moi district visited and encouraged and supported affected families.

Landslide risk barriers, warning people not to go to dangerous landslide risk areas

Specifically, the landslide is in the area of Ong Chuong canal riverbank, on Provincial Road 946, in Long Dien B commune, about 100m downstream from Tra Thon bridge (towards Long Xuyen city). The landslide is about 70m long, about 3m deep into the bank, the section at risk of being affected is about 200m long and has affected 10 houses of people (the back part of the house fell into the river), the total damage is estimated at about 2 billion VND, causing no human casualties.

Chairman of Cho Moi District People's Committee Cu Minh Trong said that the initial cause was determined to be the influence of the flow, right at the sharp curve. This section had a 30m landslide at the end of May 2023. Cho Moi District People's Committee has updated the list of landslides to be monitored and estimated the budget to fix it, but it has not been implemented due to the limited district budget.

Immediately after the incident, the delegation of the District Party Committee, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Cho Moi District visited and encouraged the affected families, supporting 10 households with damaged houses, each with 2 million VND. At the same time, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control, and Search and Rescue of Long Dien B Commune mobilized forces and means to support people in evacuating people, urgently moving assets out of dangerous areas; deploying temporary repairs and banning signs and barriers of landslide risks, warning people not to go to areas at risk of dangerous landslides.

In the immediate future, temporary accommodation will be arranged for 10 households in the old Doi Long Dien B commune while waiting for arrangements to move to the resettlement area.
