Due to the impact of heavy rain in the past few days, causing high humidity, the area of Summer-Autumn rice infected with pests and diseases tends to increase, especially rice blast, grain smut, and leaf blight.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, currently in the province, there are 5,341 hectares of rice infected with pests and diseases, an increase of 799 hectares compared to last week, mainly affecting rice from the stage of heading to flowering. The rice area most affected by the disease is rice blast disease at 1,580 hectares (an increase of 327 hectares) with an infection rate of 5-10%, concentrated in the two districts of Vung Liem and Long Ho; followed by leaf blight disease at 619 hectares (an increase of 336 hectares), leaf rollers at 568 hectares (an increase of 43 hectares), and grain sterility disease at 194 hectares (an increase of 164 hectares compared to last week).
The current weather conditions are suitable for pests and diseases to arise and cause damage to the Summer-Autumn rice crop. The Department of Agriculture and Environment recommends that farmers visit their fields regularly and carefully check their fields to have effective prevention and control measures according to the "4 rights" principle; avoid overusing nitrogen fertilizers and foliar fertilizers when rice shows signs of disease. At the same time, pump and drain water to prevent flooding, to limit rice from falling and losing due to heavy rain.
