Items with 0% tax reduction
Wood and wood products
Back a few months ago, before the US government announced new reciprocal tariffs with other countries on April 2. On March 31, the Government issued Decree 73/2025 amending and supplementing preferential import tax rates for a number of goods.
In particular, imported wood and wood products such as clothes hangers, thread spools, chairs and chair parts, wooden furniture, etc. will have their import tax reduced from 20-25% to the same tax rate of 0%. The Decree takes effect immediately on March 31.

Automotive industry
The automobile industry is expected to be the most competitive sector from the new incentive policy. The access of large-engine cars from the US to the Vietnamese market with a preferential tax rate of 0% will create a superior competitive advantage for brands such as Tesla, Ford, and Chevrolet.

In particular, Tesla electric cars and other American electric car lines such as Rivian will have significantly more competitive prices than before.
Other items that are likely to enjoy 0% tax
Technology and consumer electronics
In the field of technology and consumer electronics, the United States has a distinct advantage with high-end products such as chips, servers, and specialized computers from Apple, HP, and Dell. Exempting import taxes will help Vietnamese consumers access advanced technology products at more reasonable prices.
However, this also creates challenges for Vietnamese businesses operating in the OEM or electronics assembly sector. The fact that genuine American goods can enter the market at competitive prices will reduce demand for domestically assembled products.
Agriculture and food processing
The United States is an agricultural powerhouse with advanced and large-scale production technology. Products such as beef, frozen chicken, corn, soybeans, milk and processed foods from the United States can be pushed into the Vietnamese market with tax advantages.
Retail and e-commerce
Retail giants like Amazon, Walmart, and American consumer goods suppliers can penetrate deeper into Vietnam's distribution chain when tariff barriers are no longer present.
Despite the challenges, the 0% tax incentive policy also brings significant positive impacts. Vietnamese consumers will have more high-quality options at more reasonable prices. This will promote an increase in living standards and create positive pressure for domestic enterprises to improve their products.
Access to advanced technology from the US will also help Vietnam transfer technology, improve production capacity and increase added value for domestic industries. This is an opportunity for Vietnam to learn and develop high-tech industries.
