Sending questions to Tuoi Tre Online , readers said that after the merger, the health sector of Ho Chi Minh City reorganized medical centers, health stations, and renamed district hospitals. So where can people register for initial health insurance examination and treatment?

Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City area (before merger) has 22 medical centers, Binh Duong province area (before merger) has 9 medical centers, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau province area (before merger) has 7 medical centers.

District, county and city health centers are converted into regional health centers. In particular, Nhieu Loc, Cho Lon, Hoa Hung and Can Gio regional health centers are adjusted to operate as health centers without inpatient beds.

In addition to regional medical centers, the Department of Health reorganized 443 commune, ward, and special zone medical stations into 168 medical stations associated with 296 affiliated medical points.

The city has also officially renamed 26 hospitals in the new Ho Chi Minh City. The old Ho Chi Minh City area has 17 hospitals, Binh Duong has 3 hospitals, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau has 6 hospitals.

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, said that for now, the stations will still maintain the initial health insurance health check-up for people.

People still register for initial health insurance at health stations, health centers, hospitals, and district and county levels as before.

According to statistics from the Department of Health as of October 7, the city has 536 locations where people can register for initial health insurance examination and treatment.

Including the initial level, 450 medical examination and treatment facilities; the basic level is 73 medical examination and treatment facilities and the specialized level is 13 medical examination and treatment facilities.

These health facilities include public and private hospitals, clinics, institutes which are various general and specialty hospitals.

From September 26 to October 7, 6 units submitted qualified documents to the Department of Health to notify the facility eligible to register for initial health insurance examination and treatment in the city, including Cho Ray Hospital.

The primary health care facility is the first medical examination and treatment facility that a health insurance participant registers for. During the examination and treatment process, the patient will be examined and, if the facilities are not qualified for treatment, will be transferred to a higher level facility.

Health insurance participants of all subjects are allowed to choose one of the health insurance medical examination and treatment facilities at the initial medical examination and treatment level as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 6 of the Circular dated January 1, 2025, near their place of residence, work, study and suitable to the response capacity of the medical examination and treatment facility to register for initial medical examination and treatment under health insurance.
