Ho Chi Minh City doctor moved after journey of 'surfing waves' to treat patients in Con Dao

After a month working in Con Dao, doctors from Ho Chi Minh City called this a meaningful journey, bringing knowledge and the hearts of doctors to the island far from the Fatherland.

On the afternoon of October 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health held a preliminary summary ceremony of the rotation program of specialist doctors to work at the Con Dao Special Zone Military-Civilian Medical Center .

Memorable and proud memories of a physician

The representative of the first rotation of doctors to the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center , Doctor Huynh Giang Chau (Hung Vuong Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City) gave an emotional speech:

"The most valuable thing we received was not only professional experience working in difficult and deprived conditions, but also humanity, camaraderie and solidarity.

We have learned to appreciate every case, every patient's smile, and to understand more deeply than ever the meaning of the word " service ".

Doctor Chau and his colleagues, who are specialists from leading hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, came to Con Dao with the spirit of volunteering and enthusiasm of white-shirt soldiers, carrying in their hearts the trust and responsibility that the City People's Committee, the Department of Health and the City's health sector had entrusted to them.

With the motto "no one is left behind, even in the farthest places", Dr. Chau and his colleagues carry the sacred mission of crossing the sea to the people.

"In the midst of the sacred sea and sky of the Fatherland, we not only feel the challenge of geographical distance, but also the honor and opportunity to contribute, to bring knowledge, skills and the heart of a doctor to serve our compatriots and soldiers at the forefront.

It was only a short month, but for us, it was a meaningful and emotional journey," Dr. Chau tearfully shared.

During their time working, the first batch of doctors examined and treated more than 2,600 patients, performing many complicated surgeries right on the island. For Dr. Chau, each successful case is a joy, a new step forward for Con Dao's healthcare system.

Not only stopping at medical examination and treatment, Doctors also transfer technology, train and guide on-site medical staff, helping the center become more proactive in emergency treatment, resuscitation and basic surgery.

Each surgery, each consultation, each page of work diary all become memorable and proud memories of the doctor in white coat on the remote island.

According to Dr. Chau, The doctor rotation program is not just a short-term activity, but will become a sustainable strategy, a beautiful symbol of the connection between mainland and island healthcare, so that every Con Dao resident always receives comprehensive, timely and humane health care.

Premise for developing specialized techniques

Doctor Le Cong Tho - Director of the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center - said that the rotation program of specialist doctors to work has brought great significance to the work of caring for, protecting and improving the health of people in the Con Dao special zone.

Since welcoming the first rotating team of doctors on September 3, including specialists from major hospitals in the city, the program has achieved many impressive results.

The number of outpatient visits increased from an average of 60 visits/day to 150, even reaching 200 visits/day.

Admission and inpatient treatment have increased sharply. Many complicated cases in specialties such as internal medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, surgery, etc. have been diagnosed and effectively treated right on the island, contributing to significantly reducing the need to transfer hospitals to the mainland, saving time, costs and improving treatment effectiveness for people.

In particular, the rotating doctors have coordinated with Con Dao Medical Center to successfully deploy many new techniques - the first time they have been performed locally.

Many surgeries have been successfully performed on-site, clearly demonstrating the practical effectiveness of the program. This is also an important premise for the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center to continue developing specialized techniques in the future.

In addition to medical examination and treatment, the rotating doctors also actively participate in consultations on difficult cases, transfer techniques, train and provide dedicated guidance to the on-site medical team. Thanks to that, the quality of medical examination and treatment services in Con Dao is increasingly improved, and people have access to higher quality medical services.
