The National Super Cup organizers plan to hold a minute of silence to remember referee Tran Dinh Thinh, after the 'king in black' from Dong Nai passed away due to health problems.

As reported by Thanh Nien Newspaper, referee Tran Dinh Thinh passed away early this morning (August 4), after experiencing a health incident during a physical test, part of the supervisor and referee training program ahead of the 2025-2026 professional season.

Specifically, during the physical test according to FIFA standards, referee Tran Dinh Thinh showed signs of instability and could not continue the test.

With the preparation and arrangement of full-time professional forces from medical work, emergency teams on the field and specialized ambulances with full equipment immediately carried out emergency measures, supported breathing - circulation and quickly transferred the referee to the hospital by ambulance for further treatment. Representatives of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), VPF Company and the Referee Board were present at the hospital to directly monitor and coordinate in the treatment work.

Despite the efforts and dedication of the doctors and medical team to save him, what everyone wanted did not happen and referee Tran Dinh Thinh passed away at the age of 43, while still in the spirit of attachment and dedication to national professional tournaments with all his heart and responsibility.

Just recently, referee Tran Dinh Thinh, along with his best colleagues in Vietnam, stood on stage to receive the honorable award of his career: Vietnam Silver Whistle. According to the plan, Mr. Thinh will blow the whistle for the 2025 - 2026 National Super Cup between Hanoi Police Club (CAHN Club) and Nam Dinh Club, taking place on August 9 at Thien Truong Stadium. However, those plans have now come to an end.

It is expected that the organizers of the National Super Cup will observe a minute of silence for referee Tran Dinh Thinh, so that the two teams and the audience can have a moment of silence to remember the honest, diligent referee who always silently contributed to the development of Vietnamese football.

Referee Tran Dinh Thinh was born in 1982 in Dong Nai , started his refereeing journey in 2010 and was awarded FIFA status in 2019. He is a familiar face in the V-League, having been awarded the title "Bronze Whistle" in the 2023-2024 season and "Silver Whistle" in the 2024-2025 season, the highest achievement in his refereeing career.

During more than a decade of working in national football tournaments, referee Tran Dinh Thinh always showed composure, seriousness and courage in the assigned matches. His passing is a loss not only to his family and friends but also to a whole generation of referees striving for the development of Vietnamese football.
