On August 13, at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplatis continued to win easily.

It was the same old scenario, when Duplantis only needed to jump 6.11m to win. His main rival, Emmanouil Karalis (Greece), only reached 6.02m to finish the race and win the silver medal.

Duplantis is now back to his old habit of trying to break his own world record. In June, he reached 6.28m at a tournament in Stockholm, Sweden.

This time he registered a 6.29m pole and quickly conquered it, marking the 13th time he broke the world record.

The first time he did this was in 2020, with a bar height of just 6.17m. This is also the third time in 2025 that Duplantis has broken the old record.

Duplantis, 25, is the world's number one pole vaulter at the moment and is completely unrivalled. He always comes into competitions with a clever and interesting strategy.

Specifically, he will conquer the pole heights that are within his ability but enough to win the championship. After that, he will focus on conquering the world record. After each record, he will only raise the new pole height by 1cm compared to the old one.

The reason is that for each record break, the athlete will be awarded 100,000 USD (more than 2.6 billion VND). However, the regulations also state that each person can only be awarded once at a tournament. That means even if Duplantis breaks two or more records at the same tournament, he will only receive a maximum of 100,000 USD.

That's why he used the "1cm strategy" every time he wanted to break the world record. With 13 successful times, Duplantis "pocketed" a total of 1.3 million USD (more than 34 billion VND). The important thing is that he continues to conquer higher levels, so no one knows where this guy's limit is.

In fact, this tactic is not new. Duplantis just learned from the legendary Soviet Sergey Bubka, who broke 17 records using this method.
