Singapore's first electric cargo ship, the Hydromover, is scheduled to undergo sea trials in the fourth quarter of this year, helping to electrify the island nation's shipping fleet.
Developed by Goal Zero, the Hydromover is capable of carrying 25 tons of cargo and uses batteries that can be easily replaced in just a few minutes when exhausted. Meanwhile, the Hydroglyder electric boat, which is used to transport crew, will be launched later this year. This is a project developed by Goal Zero in conjunction with Norwegian startup Lift Ocean.
Singapore has made great strides in automating and greening its container port. The deployment of battery-powered autonomous guided vehicles has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared to traditional diesel vehicles.
