On the afternoon of September 11, at a press conference providing socio -economic issues in the area, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training continued to inform about teaching 2 sessions/day, arranging Saturday morning classes and regulations on school entry and exit times.
Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced teaching 2 sessions/day.
Many parents in Ho Chi Minh City expressed concern when their children had to go to school on Saturday mornings, including core subjects such as Natural Sciences , English...
Some opinions say that adding more classes on weekends goes against the regulation of "no more than 7 classes/day" and does not reduce the students' study burden but only spreads it to another day.
Responding to this issue, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that teaching two sessions a day aims to implement the general education program scientifically, helping to reduce learning pressure and improve the quality of comprehensive education.
Ho Chi Minh City will regulate that school will not end before 4:30 p.m.
The goal is to give students more time to review, practice, develop personal abilities, and at the same time narrow the quality gap between schools and regions.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the arrangement of Saturday morning classes is considered based on the facilities, teaching staff and practical needs of each school and each locality.
For schools that are qualified to teach 2 sessions/day, Saturday mornings are often used to nurture excellent students, tutor weak students, or organize activities to teach skills, arts, sports... according to the wishes of parents and students, on a voluntary basis.
For schools that do not have the conditions to teach 2 sessions/day, to ensure the time to convey the general education program content, schools prioritize arranging classes on the other side of the week; only when conditions are really not met will Saturday morning classes be arranged.
Thus, the organization of educational activities on Saturdays is considered and flexibly weighed based on the conditions of facilities, teaching staff and practical needs of each school and each locality.
To limit the situation where each school applies it differently, causing confusion for parents; the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that in the near future, it will issue a document regulating school entry and exit times for students of all levels in the 2025-2026 school year.
Psychological support for students and parents at the beginning of the new school year
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that the education sector pays special attention to the psychology of students and parents at the beginning of the new school year, especially for first-grade students who have to get used to different programs, timetables and learning methods.
This transition can make students anxious, stressed and need time to adapt. To support, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has directed schools to strengthen school psychological counseling, arrange homeroom teachers, specialized staff and psychological collaborators to promptly accompany students.
Educational activities are also designed in an experiential, gentle, and friendly manner, helping students integrate into the new environment and build positive relationships with teachers and friends.
In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requires schools to publicize their study plans and discuss thoroughly with parents to create consensus.
Schools are encouraged to organize meetings, consultations and information sharing to help parents understand educational goals, thereby feeling secure in accompanying their children.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the goal of the Ho Chi Minh City education sector is not only to help students acquire knowledge, but also to develop comprehensively in terms of physical, mental and life skills.
