The residency program is a specialized training program for newly graduated medical students. The number of residency positions available for each specialty is very limited, resulting in a highly competitive and stressful entrance exam.

In Vietnam, there are currently 13 universities offering residency programs for doctors, with Hanoi Medical University being one of the oldest. The Ministry of Health considers this program essential for training skilled doctors with practical hospital skills.
