Excluding priority points for region and category, Trang Thi Ha (a former student of class 12C1, Lao Cai Ethnic Boarding High School) has a total of 28.25 points in the C00 subject group, including 9.75 in Literature, 9.5 in History, and 9 in Geography.

With a total admission score of 29.05, the female student could be admitted to top-scoring majors at Hanoi University of Education this year, such as Literature Education (28.48); History and Geography Education (28.6); Geography Education (28.79)... or many majors at numerous other universities.

However, she applied to study National Defense and Security Education , a field that is not considered "hot" or trendy by many people. Ha chose Hanoi Pedagogical University because she believed it was the best pedagogical environment in the country.

Sharing her decision regarding her major, Ha said that before registering for university admissions, she researched and found that this field, although specialized, suited her, so she decided to choose it.

“I think that studying this field will not only equip me with knowledge about national defense and security, but also train me to be physically and mentally resilient and strong. I also heard from senior students that studying this field will allow me to learn more about history. I believe that learning more about history will nurture patriotism, and it's also an opportunity for me to improve myself,” Ha shared.

She also wondered if pursuing this field of study might lead to lower job opportunities or higher salaries after graduation compared to some other fields. "However, in the end, I think that if you truly have enough passion, those things aren't a problem," Ha said.

Ha said that when her classmates from high school learned she had applied to study National Defense and Security Education, many of them questioned her choice and even expressed regret. “They asked me why I didn’t apply to other more fashionable teacher training programs. I just explained that I found it interesting and suitable for me,” Ha recounted.

Those who know Ha's circumstances admire her even more. Ha's parents divorced when she was 10 years old. Since then, she has lived with her maternal grandparents. Her family is classified as poor, and her grandparents rely solely on farming to support her education. Fortunately, she has been able to attend boarding school since the 6th grade, which has reduced her educational expenses. With encouragement from her grandparents and relatives, Ha has never considered dropping out of school.

Perhaps her unique family circumstances also helped make Ha more resilient and strong-willed.

Having achieved high entrance exam scores, especially a 9.75 in Literature, Ha said she didn't attend any extra tutoring classes but only studied at the boarding school. "I think the important thing is to have a strong sense of self-discipline in studying. I always set out tasks and goals to accomplish and then organize my study time scientifically. I also don't push myself too hard to study, but allocate time for relaxation and rest appropriately. I think that's how I can concentrate and absorb knowledge best," Ha shared.

Studying National Defense and Security Education, the female student anticipated having to frequently be present and train on the training ground, as well as standing in the sun, studying outdoors, and sweating more than other pedagogical fields. However, she was confident in her good health and mentally prepared herself.

“I don’t mind it at all; on the contrary, I like it. After starting school, I found the learning environment to be very good. My classmates and seniors are all friendly. I feel this was the right choice for me,” Ha said, adding that she doesn’t feel “lonely,” as female students make up about 40 out of the 62 students in the entire department.

Ha hopes that after graduation, she can become a teacher or lecturer teaching about national defense and security at schools. For now, the female student aims to strive to graduate with a distinction or excellent grade during her four years of university.
