(NLDO) - Due to regulations on captivity, the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City did not support a business organizing a bird competition.

The "2025 Quang Dien Golden Cup Bird Competition - Singing" took place at the Quang Dien District Gymnasium in Sia Town, Quang Dien District, Hue City, on the morning of March 22, attracting hundreds of players.

While the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City did not support a business that intended to organize a bird competition, it still took place in Quang Dien district.

There were 8 judges participating in the judging to select the best red-whiskered bulbuls, so the contest lasted until noon.

Bird cages are hung in rows of columns, each cage 0.3 m apart to "compete" in singing, tail spreading, chirping - to see which bird is braver, and bridge running - the bird can run continuously in the cage the longest.

The "Golden Cup Quang Dien 2025 Red-whiskered Bulbul Singing Competition" took place on the morning of March 22.

About 150 cages participated (each cage is a starling), participants paid a fee of 500,000 VND for each cage.

In addition to the cup and flag, the organizers awarded one first prize of 7 million, one second prize of 5 million, two third prizes of 3 million. There were six consolation prizes with cups, flags, and money.

The billboard at the "2025 Quang Dien Golden Cup Red-whiskered Bulbul Singing Competition" named the organizing unit as the Quang Dien District Culture - Information and Sports Center, Quang Dien District Bird Club.

This contest took place and surprised many people, including the starling bird players, because a few days ago, the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City did not support the 75 Group Investment and Development Joint Stock Company to organize a large-scale starling bird singing contest scheduled to take place this March.

The reason is because the starling is a common forest animal, of wild origin, with the scientific name Pycnonotus Jocosus.

The organization of the contest can only be carried out when the individual starlings are kept in captivity in accordance with the law. However, the criteria for the contest proposed by the organizing unit do not clearly stipulate that the participating starlings must comply with the law. Therefore, the conditions are not sufficient for the departments to advise the People's Committee of Hue City to consider.

Meanwhile, according to some participants in the "Quang Dien Golden Cup Bird Competition - Singing 2025" they only need to pay money to be given a participation number without having to prove the origin of the birds being kept in captivity.

We contacted Mr. Ngo Dong Thi, Director of the Center for Culture, Information and Sports of Quang Dien district, to confirm the organization of the contest, the rules and criteria of the contest, including whether there are regulations on keeping starlings in captivity . However, Mr. Thi said he did not know about this contest yet, and would ask his deputy and answer later.
