This is not a luxury resort or a crowded beach - but a true "wild oasis", an ideal place for independent trips, camping and "recharging batteries". Coming to Mui Yen, you will feel how small humans are in front of nature. Here, the sea is blue, the sea breeze is salty and cool and you can admire the moment the sunset dyes the horizon red - all just for those who love to explore nature.
I followed my friend Nguyen Van Chien - a local, to lead the way to Mui Yen, because this place is still wild, even the locals or professional backpackers do not know much about it. About 4 km from Bau Trang tourist area towards the sea, to reach Mui Yen, we had to cross a gravel road, some quicksand, on both sides there were cacti growing as high as a person's waist, the deeper we went, the more we thought we were lost in some desert. However, hidden behind that aridity, is an unusually beautiful Mui Yen paradise with large open spaces and undulating rocky outcrops. People call this place Mui Yen, because there are rocky outcrops jutting out into the sea like swallows, about 30 m high above sea level, "hidden" quite well in the desert. Especially in the spring, many swiftlets have chosen the caves here to live and nest, so the name Mui Yen also originates from there... Not a gentle, poetic scene like the familiar seaside destinations of Lam Dong with blue sea, Mui Yen appears before our eyes with a wild and mysterious beauty. The waves crash strongly against the large rocky outcrops creating a majestic scene.
This place has not been exploited for tourism, only "backpackers" who are passionate about nature and share with each other in private groups come here. From the highest point of the cliff, we can see the whole scene of the sea and sky blending together, the blue of the sea blending with the blue of the sky and the green of the distant hills creating a beautiful picture that can only be fully appreciated by being there in person. When the sun gradually sets, standing on the cape jutting out into the sea, I look at the space here as if covered with a dreamy veil, blending the brilliant colors and the tranquility of the sea and sky. The sky gradually changes color from clear blue to streaks of orange, pink and purple, reflecting sparklingly on the deep blue sea. The last rays of sunlight of the day filter through the cliffs and green hills, creating a scene that is both majestic and gentle. Chien's group of friends and I sat on the grassy slope, watching the flock of swiftlets flying back to their nests, the sun like a fireball slowly sinking below the horizon, it felt like time stopped, leaving only a strange peace.
This is not only a check-in place, but also a place to help you temporarily forget the hustle and bustle of work, the pressures of life, to practice living slowly, breathe fresh air and connect with nature. Chien said: “During the dry season, the fine white sand mixed with undulating rocks creates a beautiful scene. My group sometimes comes here to camp overnight, bringing tents, grills, campfires... Sleeping a night by the sea really recharges our batteries. Last year, we even saw cars driving in, even though the road was quite difficult to travel, mainly young people who love adventure and love to travel.”
Mui Yen is not just a destination, but also a journey of discovery for young souls, yearning for freedom. Hopefully in the near future, the scenic Mui Yen hidden behind the "desert" of Hoa Thang coastal area will be awakened and become an attractive destination.
