When will Mbappe return?
Mbappe was surprisingly absent from training ahead of the match against Al Hilal, although there was no news that the 26-year-old French star was injured. According to Spanish newspaper AS : "Mbappe felt unwell about a day before the match. The doctors carried out some tests and the verdict was quick and clear: sick."

Mbappe was absent from Real Madrid's opening match against Asian side Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia). As a result, coach Alonso had to make a substitution by using a player from the youth team, Gonzalo Garcia (21 years old). The remaining Real Madrid strikers such as Endrick were also absent from the tournament due to injury.
Coach Alonso used a 4-3-3 formation for Real Madrid in his debut, placing high hopes on Vinicius and the return of Rodrygo. While Jude Bellingham played in midfield. Two new signings Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen both had expected debuts.
Real Madrid could have won against Al Hilal, if Federico Valverde had not missed a penalty in the 90+2 minute. Before that, Mbappe's replacement Gonzalo Garcia scored the opening goal for Real Madrid in the 34th minute, but at the end of the first half Ruben Neves managed to equalize 1-1 for Al Hilal with a goal from the 11m mark.
According to coach Alonso: "Real Madrid still need more time to perfect the way they are playing. We have to continue to make mistakes to correct them and persevere. Everything needs time, and everything needs to be repeated to absorb a little more."

Regarding Mbappe, the 43-year-old coach admitted: "We still don't know when he will return. We will have to see how he recovers in the coming days. Mbappe has had a relatively significant recovery process. Let's wait and see, but I'm not sure he will be in time to play the next match (against Mexico's Pachuca at 2am on June 23).
As for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, they had their debuts as expected. These are two players who do not need an integration process. They came to us, trained a few sessions and played. They are top-class players. Surely, these are two players who will help us make a significant step forward in terms of quality of play."
