Use it wisely to avoid wasting it!

Coach Kim Sang-sik's approach to selecting the national team aims to ensure a constant supply of players to replace each other when needed. With at least two different players capable of filling each position, the Vietnamese team will not be caught off guard if a player gets injured or if opponents anticipate their tactics.

First, in the goalkeeper position, Nguyen Filip is most likely to start. His backup will be Nguyen Dinh Trieu. He is one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the V-League, throughout the 2023-2024 season and into the early stages of the 2024-2025 season. Dinh Trieu has been regularly called up to the national team recently, so he has no shortage of international experience. Furthermore, in terms of form, Nguyen Dinh Trieu is in better shape than Dang Van Lam, the goalkeeper who was recently dropped from the AFF Cup squad.

Nguyen Filip and Nguyen Dinh Trieu (number 21) will be two reliable goalkeepers for the Vietnamese national team at the 2024 AFF Cup.

In the defensive line, coach Kim Sang-sik has called up five center-backs: Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Bui Tien Dung, Nguyen Thanh Binh, Nguyen Thanh Chung, and Do Duy Manh. Including Ho Tan Tai, who can play center-back when needed, the Vietnamese national team currently has six players capable of playing this role. Normally, under coach Kim Sang-sik, the team plays with three center-backs. Therefore, the number of players who can play center-back is now double the number of center-backs who usually appear on the field at the same time (6 compared to 3).

At right-back, there are three players who specialize in this position: Vu Van Thanh, Pham Xuan Manh, and Ho Tan Tai. On the left wing, Nguyen Van Vi is the player who plays this role most often. In addition, before the AFF Cup, Khuat Van Khang was also tested a few times playing as a left-back. Not to mention that when needed, Van Thanh and Xuan Manh can also be deployed to the left wing of the defense. Therefore, the Vietnamese national team doesn't have to worry about a shortage of players in these positions.

The Vietnamese national team currently boasts many quality players in the wing-back position.

Above the defensive line, we currently have four central midfielders: Nguyen Hoang Duc, Chau Ngoc Quang, Le Pham Thanh Long, and Doan Ngoc Tan. Coach Kim Sang-sik usually uses a formation with two central midfielders. Therefore, the number of registered central midfielders is double the number of players who usually appear on the field at the same time.

Even in the extremely difficult position of an attacking midfielder, the Vietnamese national team is fortunate to have two outstanding players, Nguyen Quang Hai and Nguyen Hoang Duc, while for other teams, finding even one such midfielder is very difficult.

As for the forward line, after naturalized foreign player Nguyen Xuan Son was called up to the AFF Cup squad, the Vietnamese national team has at least two very dangerous strikers: Nguyen Xuan Son and Nguyen Tien Linh. Typically, in recent matches, coach Kim Sang-sik only fielded one striker in the starting lineup, meaning the team now has double the number of strikers available for each point in the match.

Xuan Son is undoubtedly the most anticipated face in the attacking line.

The remaining forwards, including Nguyen Van Toan, Bui Vi Hao, Pham Tuan Hai, and Dinh Thanh Binh, usually play as withdrawn forwards. The number of withdrawn forwards we have is currently double the number of players who are usually named in the starting lineup for each match.

It can be said that, with their current squad, the Vietnamese national team is one of the most balanced and formidable teams in the AFF Cup 2024. This could open up a great opportunity for coach Kim Sang-sik's team to conquer the championship title in the upcoming Southeast Asian tournament.
