The submarine, owned by OceanGate Expeditions, lost contact on June 18 after diving to the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean for about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
There were five people on board the Titan submersible - including Mr. Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate Expeditions and also the pilot of the ship exploring the Titanic wreck at a depth of 3,800 m. OceanGate Expeditions is the owner of the Titan submersible.
Coincidentally, Mr. Stockton Rush's wife is Mrs. Wendy Rush - a descendant of the wealthy couple who died in the Titanic sinking in 1912.
Specifically, Ms. Wendy Rush is the great-granddaughter of retail tycoon Isidor Straus (born in 1845) and his wife, Ida Straus. Archives show that Mr. and Mrs. Isidor Straus were among the wealthiest passengers on the legendary Titanic.

Survivors of the disaster recalled seeing Ida Straus refuse to board a lifeboat and stay with Isidor Straus on the sinking ship. They said the two held hands until they were swept overboard.
Two weeks after the tragedy, rescuers found the body of Mr. Isidor Straus, but Mrs. Ida Straus remains a mystery.
These two real-life characters were adapted and featured in James Cameron's 1997 blockbuster 'Titanic'. The love story of Mr. and Mrs. Isidor Straus was portrayed with the image of the elderly couple embracing before the water rose around their cabin, and became an iconic image in popular culture.

Titanic sank on April 15, 1912 in the North Atlantic after colliding with an iceberg during its journey from Southampton, England to New York, USA.
At that time, despite continuous emergency signals and flares fired from the deck, it took nearly 2 hours for rescue to be reached. The Carpathia was the first rescue ship to reach the Titanic, saving more than 700 lives, while more than 1,517 people died.
The ship was carrying 2,224 passengers and crew at the time of the accident under the command of Captain Edward Smith.

As for Wendy Rush, she married Stockton Rush in 1986. She currently serves as OceanGate's communications director and is a longtime board member of the company's charitable foundation.
Like her husband, Wendy has a passion for exploration. Over the past two years, she has participated in three OceanGate expeditions to the Titanic wreck.
Regarding the fate of the Titan submarine, the US Coast Guard confirmed on June 22 that the ship exploded underwater and all 5 people on board died.
