Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University , Hanoi ) said: This is not only an annual academic event, but also a meaningful activity to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press - a century of formation, development and constant innovation. Since its inception with the Thanh Nien newspaper founded by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc, the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press has accompanied the nation through many historical events, playing the role of a torch illuminating the revolutionary cause, an effective tool for propaganda, agitation and social criticism.

“One hundred years have passed, we are standing at the threshold of a new century, where journalism and media are not only a story of a profession, but also a problem of technology, ethics, and professional courage in a world that is constantly changing. Entering the third decade of the 21st century, Vietnamese journalism and media are facing a rapidly developing digital era. Artificial intelligence (AI), big data, virtual reality (VR/AR), Blockchain technology or automated media models are changing the entire media ecosystem. Every day that passes, we witness the emergence of new technologies, new methods of information transmission, and especially the role of journalists and media workers is being re-positioned in that context,” said Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan.

Faced with these challenges, those working in journalism training and research, those who are directly and indirectly preparing the young generation of journalists - cannot stand aside. The workshop was organized with the aim of: Connecting - sharing - innovating in technological approaches, in order to prepare for the new generation of media workers - the generation responsible for continuing to write the glorious history of Vietnam's Revolutionary Press in the next 100 years.

Journalism in the digital age is not just about using technology, but understanding the nature of technology to create new value for content, for the community and for society. The power of AI is enormous.

“But AI cannot replace the core qualities that make a true journalist: intelligence, courage, social responsibility and the desire to dedicate to the truth. AI can support journalists in creating content, analyzing data, personalizing information - but it is humans who decide the direction of that content,” said Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan.

Dr. Phan Van Kien, Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training - University of Social Sciences and Humanities, said: “Artificial intelligence is and will continue to profoundly change the way humanity produces and accesses information. Large language models, automatic data processing systems, and AI content creation tools are no longer science fiction but have become new “colleagues”, even “competitors” with humans in journalism and communication activities. In this context, journalism and communication training institutions have the responsibility to prepare a new generation of journalists who are more courageous, more creative, more technological, and more humane.”

At the forum, experts shared their presentations on "AI does not replace journalists but reshapes the way we do journalism", "AI solutions made in Vietnam, potential internal resources for national digital transformation", "How do press agencies apply AI"...

Through the forum, students will be inspired by their careers, better understand the technology they are studying and using, and will have dialogue with them throughout their career journey. Lecturers and researchers will have more data and practical experience to update their training and research programs. Technology businesses will find opportunities to cooperate and accompany in training and developing high-quality, technology-savvy journalism and media human resources...

Dr. Phan Van Kien said: “From a training perspective, we call for closer cooperation between training institutions - technology enterprises - press agencies, to build new innovative practice models such as: AI lab applied in journalism; career-oriented technology internship program; Interdisciplinary, intergenerational content projects where students not only learn a profession but also learn how to innovate their profession…”.
