Sunderland have shown a strong shopping spree after returning to the top flight of English football, with a series of quality transfers. |
According to The Times , Sunderland are close to signing Granit Xhaka for a fee of up to 20 million euros. This deal is expected to bring the "Black Cats" total spending to 135 million euros, an impressive figure for a newly promoted Premier League team.
Excluding the top six teams in the league, Sunderland is the biggest spender in England. Sunderland's spending even exceeds that of Tottenham and Newcastle United, teams that have a ticket to the Champions League next season.
Newcastle United's total spending in the summer of 2025 is only 60 million euros, while Tottenham Hotspur has just signed a big contract named Mohammed Kudus for more than 60 million euros.
Sunderland have completed six deals for a total of €115.5m, including: Habib Diarra (€31.5m), Enzo Le Fée (€23m), Chemsdine Talbi (€23m), Simon Adingra (€21m), Noah Sadiki (€17m), Reinildo Mandava (free).
In particular, midfielder Habib Diarra broke the transfer record in the club's history. The Granit Xhaka deal (20 million euros) is in the final stages, promising to bring the top-level playing experience and leadership qualities that Sunderland desperately needs in the central midfield area.
Under the leadership of owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and new sporting director Florent Ghisolfi, the "Black Cats" promise to invest heavily to avoid the risk of relegation.
