Air traffic controllers involved in near-collision of two planes suspended

Initial assessment is that this incident is a violation of the minimum separation standards between aircraft and “airborne collision avoidance alarm”. The incident must be reported according to the aviation safety reporting regulations of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

Immediately after the incident, the Southern Air Traffic Management Company temporarily suspended the relevant air traffic controllers and proceeded to verify the incident, and reported to the competent authority as prescribed. Accordingly, no flight crew including the Chief of Flight Operations, direct controller (EC) and coordination controller (PLC), and supervisory controller were assigned to serve the incident investigation.

After receiving the information, VATM leaders immediately decided to establish an internal investigation team led by the Head of the Quality Safety Department to clarify the cause of the incident. VATM's representative said that the investigation team is in the process of performing its duties at the Southern Air Traffic Management Company. When there are official results, VATM will officially announce the information according to regulations.

The on-duty crew immediately organized a commentary on the above incident after the shift. The Southern Air Traffic Management Company also organized a commentary and drew lessons from the above situation for all the air traffic controllers of ACC HCM.
