According to the announcement, the high-speed ferry route will be temporarily suspended from May 5 to return pier No. 2 at Bach Dang Wharf, District 1 to the construction unit of the pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River. GreenlinesDP has proposed a new pier and is waiting for the competent authority to consider and implement it.
Pier No. 2 is located along Bach Dang wharf park on the Saigon River, 80m long, 9m wide, and has been leased by GreenlinesDP Company to operate a high-speed ferry route carrying passengers from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau since 2018. The route from Bach Dang wharf goes through the Saigon, Nha Be, Long Tau, Nga Bay rivers and then to Tac Suat wharf (Can Gio district), then continues to move through Ganh Rai cape to reach Ho May cable car tourist area wharf (Vung Tau city).
The operator said that in the past, there were 4-8 trips per day on the route, and this number could increase to 10-12 trips on weekends. The train travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau is about 2 hours, 1 hour shorter than the 3 hours it takes by car.
Currently, wharf No. 2 is the construction site for a pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River connecting to the new urban area of Thu Thiem (Thu Duc City). This project just started construction at the end of March with a total investment of nearly 1,000 billion VND, sponsored by Nutifood Nutrition Food Joint Stock Company.
Previously, to serve the project construction, the People's Committee of District 1 requested GreenlinesDP Company to stop operating at pier No. 2 of Bach Dang Wharf. The enterprise is responsible for dismantling, moving related items and returning the site.
